I'm not sure that is enough. You really need a rounded bottom outline to the shield in blue to provide a hard outline. Right now the bottom of the badge disappears into the white and orange uniforms. And you want the rounded outline to take away the downward pointing arrow.

I don't think it will hurt the brand that much to tweak it in a year or two and get something reasonable. The attachment is really to the idea of a shield, so if you make a better shield it won't be a hard sell. And let's face it, we really don't have that many rabid fans buying up and getting attached to merchandise right now.

I agree that I was surprised that the middle stripe was white and not orange. I think it plays okay as-is, but haven't tooled around with it. That might be to avoid an arrow look.

I do expect a tweak at some point, though from here any tweak might be overdone (possibly an oversimplification) for the sake of change.

And for the record, I really don't see the down arrow. The top is far bolder than the bottom and dominates the image.

How would I possibly make anyone stop liking it? You clearly don't understand group psychology if you think that is possible. Those who are in the throes of love won't see any differently. But obviously there are some on here able to look more objectively. I'm talking to them. Why does that bother you?

Well it clearly bothers you that the fans like it and I am not sure why. Get over it

No, just group psychology. If that logo had been presented by someone on this forum as an idea last week most on here would have ripped it as idiotic.

How do you know this? Because you think it makes sense and don't like the logo and want to cram it down everyone's throats? I normally agree with you but I also know that there's times where you just bludgeon people over the head repeatedly trying to convince them that your point is right and is the only way. We get it, you don't like it. But guess what? You're one of the few that dislikes it. I'm sure you'll come up with some other half-cocked idea as to why that is the case.

They could have put out a new logo designed around the concept of an orange and blue dung pile and fans would have snapped it up. We are that desperate for something new.

They could have put out the most objectively perfect logo created from on high and you would have been a pot-stirring contrarian about it.

That psychology goes both ways champ.

I liked the shield logo a lot the first time I saw it, which was on the football jersey. After seeing it bigger and on hats and t-shirts I don't like it as much. But I still think it looks good small on the football jerseys and basketball shorts. Otherwise, it looks like a golf logo to me, like the Tiger Woods "TW" Nike logo.

I will say though, the wordmark has grown on me. Now I just downright like it and am planning on buying a t-shirt with only the Illinois wordmark on it.

Are you kidding me? We have one of the most cynical fan bases on Earth. I do not subscribe to the "You could have made up anything and we would have loved it" line of thinking. We would have ridiculed anything we had not actually been able to embrace.

One of my biggest reference points are the Chicago writers(not sure if this is good or bad). They usually tell me if I have my orange glasses on or not. And I have seen nothing but positive out of all of them regarding the shield and the overall rebrand for the most part. (they wanted more "Fighting Illini" and wished we still had Chief) They might not be graphic designers but they sure don't have to like the shield and it seems that they do.

If we had the :chief: still, we would have the best uniforms in the nation. No one could beat our helmets, uniforms, and the midfield logo would be badass.

Wow, don't some of you guys need to go mow the lawn, rearrange your closet, clean the garage, something? Give it a break. We have what we have. If changes are going to be made it will be a ways down the road. Fretting about the day old releases does no good. Constructive criticism is one thing, say your piece and let it go, but to b!tch! incessantly is someting else. And yes, when you put forth the same anti redesign schlock 30 times in a 24 hour period any credence you may have had disappeared after about the 5 reiteration. They may not be perfect but it's pretty obvious that the majority of Illini fans, and non-Illini fans alike, approve of the updates. Ever hear of Majority Rules? Overall it's a definite upgrade. I don't care if you have a Doctorate in Design or 20k posts on some internet message board, the people have spoken and there are plenty of other threads on IL that you may want to devote some attention to. Last I looked the dissenters haven't swayed a single poster. :shield:

A humble request to all the amazing photoshoppers on this board:

Is there any way we could get some sort of "Team Shield" signature made out of our dual-color font? I feel like it would look awesome if a bunch of people could have the same image down there with an on-brand look.

Couldn't do it in the dual color font because I couldn't find the whole alphabet in the dual-color. Maybe this will do in the mean time...

This may get shot down, but just a suggestion. If you like the alternate logo enough to push for it to be more prominent, how about referring to it by it's given description?

It's a badge not a shield (apparently).

No skin off my nose. I don't even like it. But just saying...

Umm, didn't the Nike rep refer to it as a shield?

The Nike guy called it a shield last night.

Apparently so. They named it the "Victory Badge," that's why I said what I did. Looks like it's whatever you want to call it.

How are they not being consistent about it?

That was just a tongue-in-cheek jab at the many inconsistencies within this brand despite that being their biggest talking point leading up to it.

But the inspiration (too strong of a word) for the joke was that Nike named it the "Victory Badge" official but apparently called it a "shield" last night.

I don't get why you keep coming to this thread, it obviously drives you crazy. Just let it go, please

I'm smiling right now, man. The rebrand legitimately upsets me, but I wasn't seriously talking about it then. That was tongue-in-cheek as I said.

The fact that a collegiate rebrand can "legitimately upset" you is a bit weird.
