the shield

Here's the 1967 shield that was part on the PE sweatshirt we were required to buy. This is actually the 1967 shirt. I never liked it, never wore it but never threw it away. During the grunge era when my daughter was in high school she took it and still has it. (sorry I couldn't figure out how to rotate the photo, what you see is sideways.)

Back then we wore sweatshirts inside out, so no problem!

You guys should be able to use this photo as a phone background. I made this yesterday morning and people on IL have been modifying it ever since. :thumb:

This was the best I could do yesterday.

wow, that actually makes me like the shield -- could you post the jpeg file for that wallpaper (as opposed to the screenshot)?

Compliments of Pizzaman.

Thanks for the rotation. If I live long enough I'll get the hang of this technology! I had forgotten about the old shield shirt until I saw the new shield. I knew there were similarities but I couldn't remember how much.

Wait, wait, wait. PE in college? When was that a thing?

How many other major teams in the nation have a silver basketball jersey? There has to be some but I can't think of any. Ohio St used silver for a little bit, but I haven't seen them use it lately.

You are welcome. I remember seeing that style a lot when I was much younger. I believe it was a fairly generic logo amongst schools. You forgot to write your name in the box. :)

I actually like the Before much better. That was more unique and identifiable, kinda like the Arizona 'A'.

I don't know if I consider one more identifiable than the other, but I certainly preferred the proportions of the old one (though I like the thick single outline of the new one). The vertical stem used to be thicker and the horizontal bars thinner. That felt stronger to me. This new one is more slender. Reminds me of the incorrect "tall" I taken from the I-ILLINOIS logo that got some use in past years.

I also don't like the new orange on screen. We'll see how it produces in print. The uniform orange is fine. It's not noticeably different. But the RGB values are, and it moves in too much of a peach direction. Not sure how it will print in CMYK.

In the 60's, 4 semesters IIRC. One of the requirements for graduation I put off meeting which lead to 6 illustrious years of college.

A couple of these schools at least use gray/silver as one of the primary school colors. But factoring in a couple special events, I came up with this list with minimal thinking:

Arizona, Colorado, Creighton, Duke, UNC, Syracuse, Kentucky, Florida, UConn, Georgetown, Purdue, Ohio St, Wichita St, K-State, Villanova, Washington St, Texas, West Virginia, Oklahoma St, Penn St, Providence

I like the modified Block I better. I can understand that you like the old one, cause it is more classic. I like the darker orange.

Yeah, but we make it look better than any of them.

Yeah, but we make it look better than any of them.

They could have nailed every other element, and silver is something I'd have hated anyways. It's not our color. And on that jersey, we're using it not just as a compliment, but at the expense of one of our primary colors.

I know the silver has some people really, really excited. But it seems exceptionally off-brand to me.
