Even though I'm generally a fan of most of the rebrand today I was finally able to realize how you feel. I was trying to explain to people just how much I hate the Big Bang Theory, but everyone else loves that pile of crud. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

I hate that show too lol

And honestly, despite all that was said by administration about what they wanted to accomplish with this process, is that a bad thing? I know we all want something timeless, but keeping up with the jones's isn't a bad way to do things. It's certainly what gets recruits and most of the fan base excited.

Huh? It would be nice if we could at least make an honest go of this thing. I am still seeing the old block I, the slant Illinois, etc, etc in all sorts of places both official and unofficial. And god knows how long we will have to wait for all the new uniforms to appear.

If you don't like BBT, then yes you are. :D

:thumb: Easily the worst popular show on television.

Where are you seeing the old block I and slant Illinois? I don't think this is a "flip the switch" process. We knew before the reveal that basketball and football were the only teams likely to have new unis next year. Changing everything out takes time, money, and awareness of inconsistencies. We haven't had enough time, we are clearly short on money with the SFC rebuild and all the other projects.

How I Met Your Mother says "hi".

As for the topic at hand, I'm really baffled that they would not have blue football unis ready to go, especially after showing them at the unveiling. And that, you know, that's been our primary home color forever. I just hope they don't use last year's blues with the new helmets/pants. That would be some serious amateur hour stuff.

I sure hope not. I never want to see those old jerseys again.

This wasn't a brand built to last. It was a brand built to be new. Which was a pretty infallible goal, I suppose.
The Nike goal is to sell more Nike stuff. The "rebranding" hoopla was just the excuse. Nike has no particular incentive to help Illinois rebrand. So if the DIA doesn't make sure that happens, we shouldn't expect Nike to make it a priority.

If half a dozen guys on this forum post TEAM SHIELD everywhere, that won't help us win any games or recruit any athletes who would otherwise go elsewhere. But it will help Nike sell their stuff. Yes, the DIA gets a cut, but if anyone really cared about helping the school or DIA they should just donate their money directly to the foundation or DIA, attend more games, and wear old Illini gear.

And again, the bottom half of the victory badge vanishes against a light background.

I've gotta be honest - I'm pretty flattered. First, IntenselyOrange credits me with demagoguing people into liking the Shield when they otherwise wouldn't, and now I'm getting credit for boosting Nike sales? And people say time spent on message boards is time wasted!

Hey, I don't give you all the credit, you're just the person I named :). I gave the #Team Shield nonsense the credit. A few vocal people who jumped on it immediately as if it was the greatest logo ever created.

But before I am banished again, I will refrain from trying to explain it to you again.

Ha, I know.

Just to reiterate - everyone knows that Team Shield is like 75% tongue-in-cheek, right? In fact, #Team[Anything] has become a pretty standard joke that plays on the instantaneous, binary tribalism of anything being discussed on the internet.

I like the Shield, but it's not like I'm getting a tattoo of it or anything.

I'm now on "Team Matt"

And the tattoo idea is phenomenal, but what about all that negative space? :D

Is it true that some football players in the 1980s had Chief logo tattoos on their rear ends? The rumor went around campus at the time and I heard this from several reliable female sources at the time.

^^^They haven't changed every single thing in that gym yet, just the floor. You have to give it some time

They just finished up with the new court. I'd be surprised if they fail to change the other logos on the wall, scoreboard, etc, before the season begins in August.

Wouldn't shock me if some still remain, but honestly that ISN'T something I'd complain about as long as they get most of the big stuff.

No major brand is able to get things 100% switched over that quickly. You see that in stores and restaurants and such all the time. That stuff can be expensive, so some of it HAS to be a gradual roll out.

To me uniforms shouldn't be one of those things, and as you all know, I have plenty of other complaints. But getting every Block I on every DIA building replaced ASAP isn't one of them. Just isn't feasible.
