The zig zags are based on the feathers in outer edge of the Chief Illiniwek logo.

Yeah, we know. That's a nod for the sake of a nod.

The football uniforms look IMMEASURABLY better than the wILL-INI mockups. Immeasurably.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but to the extent Nike totally departed from the preexisting Illinois imagery, they did wonderfully. To the extent that they tried to tie in vague post-Chief winks (the zig-zag and the two-tone lettering) they fared much more poorly.

Ever been to the southeast? I remember visiting North Carolina many years ago and having my white socks orange after a day of walking around.

I can send you some nice red clay from AL if you'd like... :D And yes, it's very orange / red!

For reference, the Alabama Dirt Shirt is a cotton t-shirt colored with Alabama red clay dirt...

I have not seen the new 1ll1no1s two-tome lettering look good on any shirts, uniforms or hats.

However, I saw it on a back window decal this morning and it actually looked pretty sharp in that setting.

Okay I know this will never happen but how cool would it be if all football players had the normal uniforms but all OL got to have the shield on their chest instead of a number.

Possibly all Centers in basketball and goalies in Soccer.

Holding...#... Shield?.... 15 yard penalty. Repeat 1st down.

Has anybody seen the new logo on a vintage hat? I love my vintage hat with the I on the front and the Chief on the back.

I notice on the store they're tossing up quite a bit of (what I assume is surplus) non-rebranded tailgating junk.

Looks like the logo's haven't made it fully to ESPN yet. During the B1G coaches segment I saw (the 4 downs thing), I saw the old block I floating in the background :(

Weird considering the new logo is being used on the Sportscenter app.

Yep, here it is:

Admiral Kwedass ‏@AdmiralKwedas 20m
@IlliniFootball @ALionEye I thought the helmets were supposed to say "Fighting Illini" on the back

Illinois Football ‏@IlliniFootball 10m
@AdmiralKwedas @ALionEye the real ones do. These are just being used to fit the players for helmet size, they're not the game helmets.

What's with all those other helmets near the ceiling? I'm assuming that's an Illinois facility so that's a bit strange lol.

Those appear to just be practice helmets though, so I wouldn't worry about them not having the white :illinois:

All schools have helmets of every other D1 team for the most part so that on game days they can display them for tv or other purposes.

Ah gotcha, that's actually pretty interesting

It is considered one of the things that equipment managers do with one another. They will each exchange a helmet, especially when they are playing for the first time. They would already have a Rutgers helmet from when we played them in 2005 and 2006, but not sure how long it has been since we played Maryland. Trent also has some NFL helmets in there that he has gotten as an exchange.
