If it was Bernstein who said it, he seems to know Shannon Ryan. He doesn't have sources of his own though. He pretends to. So also a chance he just looked up who had the strongest ties to Illinois and went with it.
I'm guessing it was Bernstein since he's the only one who ever talks illini on there, usually for the worse.
I can say with near certainty that Tom Michael is not the front runner.
Jeremy Werner indicated Tiley is the favorite.
Just heard on the Score that Tom Michael is the front runner :frustrated:
They said based on a Tribune report. The Tribune did not say Michael was the front runner.
If this University passes up on Tiley for Michael it would be the equivalent of Harry and Lloyd passing up the Hawaiian Tropic bus at the end of Dumb and Dumber.
If they hire Tom Michael I'm changing my interim fan status to ex-fan.
Get this done by the end of the week if Tiley is serious, which I expect he is since he is in Indianapolis.
How has Werner been off base?
The only reporter who has been both not wildly wrong and frequently ahead of the curve on the palace intrigue at Illinois over the past year or so is Shannon Ryan. Both Bernstein and Werner have been wildly off base.
On the scout premium board he was reporting that George was all but a done deal as of the day George gave his firm "no".
I don't think the problem with this is people making stuff up as much as "sources" who aren't as plugged into the situation as they think they are. Those are almost impossible judgements to make as a journalist, but whoever is talking to Ryan is clearly pretty clued in.
There should be pressure to get this done if it is Tiley. We have an important decision to make and soon. Might take a bit to give the Australian Tennis people notice and then also packup and move 24 hours away to centrial Illinois.

It's doubly impressive that she's able to do all this reporting in addition to her day job of running an anti-Illinois propaganda machine, amirite?

I wonder who she knows because she has been right most of the time. I'm not a huge fan because it seems like every article she writes blasts the university(which has been pretty easy to do lately). Seems like Tupper has been on top of things from the get go as well.
Yep, the most expensive hire is one who fails. An AD who lifts basketball and football back to relevance would be cheap at any price.
