Wait, who's the third? Pretty big dropoff after George, IMO

Highly unlikely but if we have big influential donors involved and we are throwing money around, we better at least talk with Jim Phillips and put the squeeze on him. I don't think he'll bite, but if he did, he would be a fantastic hire with Illinois ties.

My hope now is with Tiley.

Why would any established AD in a good situation that could easily catapult them into numerous other things even give the Illinois job more than a couple seconds thought? With no president or chancellor in place, the risk is not worth the reward. You have to think guys like Shawn Wax and Tom Michael are our best options.

So he said "Should Illinois contact me...I will decline the offer." Does that mean we haven't contacted? Surely someone has said something to him to show we are interested, right?

If Illinois is already talking about having the AD search all completed by early next week at the latest, and RG is saying "should Illinois contact me..." it makes me think we haven't officially made an offer. If we haven't made an offer, how can he know he wants to decline?!?! :suspicious:

On the other hand, he could be helping us to save face and not publicly reject an offer (that we already made) by saying he just isn't leaving CO. If he says no, we go right to someone else that really wants the job and wrap it all up by next week.

Who knows?

A) the classical denial that eventually leads to him bein hired.

B) he heard through sources he is not the choice anyway.

Looking like we're going to Tim Beckman up this hire. Par for the course.

Look on the bright side - at least we didn't have to go through a hat picking ceremony ....:)

And only, like, 9 re-tweets of that tweet. I'd take that personally if I were RG.

No info, but I have a feeling we'll be pleasantly surprised with the new AD.

I mean, how f'ing hard can it be to have a decent 6-8 win (with 10 as the outlier) football team every year with our institution and facilities and the NCAAs 95% of the time in hoops?

We probably lost our chance at Rick George when Barbara Wilson announced that she'd be forming a search committee. Maybe they don't really want George (after all, he committed the heinous crime of giving a recruit a hundred dollar bill like 30 years ago). Maybe they're just incompetent. Maybe both. I lean towards the latter.

If they wanted to hire George they should have been ready to make an offer immediately after firing Thomas. Unfortunately, this is Illinois, so we just drift along with incompetent leadership.

I have no confidence that they're going to find an A+ AD. I can't imagine anybody really good would want this job. It's a dumpster fire.

Every indication has been that this process has been run by exactly the people in exactly the way Illini fans would choose. Settle down.

This is my read on it (no inside info.)

I'm almost certain he has been contacted by intermediaries based on comments from all over the place (no premium info). I don't know who that would be, but maybe former players and coaches or just well heeled alumni.

My guess is Colorado came to him and gave him everything he would need to stay put.

I would suspect that things didn't work out for whatever reason. Hopefully it means we each chose our own path for whatever reason. George could have said this days ago. Why now?
