If Cuonzo ends up at Mizzou, Alford ends up and Indiana, and Northwestern continues its upward trajectory, we’d find ourselves in the middle of one crazy geographic rivalry-triangle.

Here is why Martin will leave and Alford will give his first born child for an offer from Indiana.

School.....arena capacity.............average attendance this year

UCLA 13,800 7256

USC 10,258 3492

ASU 14,198 5576

Cal 11,877 7653

Oregon 12,544 5899

OSU 9,604 4851

Stanford 7,233 4756

Wash 10,000 6272

WSU 11,671 2723

Attendance at PAC 12 games has been falling for years and was down 4% this year. Nobody gives a rats !!!. Somebody yells "surf up" and half the crowd leaves. Yes the games are on TV but they are in the BIG also. USC against then #11 Utah drew 2800 people. There is so much to do out there that college basketball is probably not in the top 50. To paraphrase JW, at no place (except Arizona) does the hair on the back of your neck tingle when the home team comes on the floor. You want to be a head coach and live in total anonymity, this is your conference.

I've gone from there to worried that we would take him over better guys because he is "established" and a "name".

At this point I have confidence in Whitman to make the best hire and not to be cowed into hiring a guy just because he's a name

This recruiting area should be interesting with SLU and Cuonzo at Mizzou and whoever Illinois hires. Interesting recruiting battles

Someone who works for SB Nation is saying Illinois is talking about offering $4.8m/yr to Tony Bennett

After watching California last night, even realizing the Bears were without their best player, you have to wonder if Cuonzo can X and O or just recruit. I would have liked to have seen Brian Gregory get a shot. He's an Illinois kid from the NW suburbs, was an asst. for years under Izzo then went to Dayton and had a great run before taking the Ga. Tech gig. Realize he got axed at Tech, but then everybody does. Any chance we can convince Alford to take the Illinois job?

Gentlemen! I just got back from the future. Here's what happens:

-Cuonzo Martin to Missouri
-Gregg Marshall to Indiana
-Tony Bennett stays at UVA with a big raise
-Archie Miller to NC State
-Kevin Keatts to Illinois
-Will Wade to LSU
-Dan Muller to Wichita State
-Eric Musselman to Cal
-Pat Kelsey to Dayton
-Tom Crean to Assistant Coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves
-Kenny Payne to VCU

Keatts wins a ton of games at Illinois, sticks around for 17 years. In 2043, the apocalypse occurs (the result of fast tracking AI development in an attempt to manage massive water pollution due to nanotech proliferation). Pretty much everyone dies :shield:

If Cu goes to Mizzou, cool that means he won't come to Illinois... but that'll pose a new, more difficult dynamic for recruiting the STL area.

Why are people assuming that walker would go to Mizzou with cuonzo? The two are not connected.

That being said, if our new coach doesn't offer him a job and cuonzo does, then yeah, makes sense... but this idea that Jamal is going to follow cuonzo to Mizzou just because there was a rumor that cuonzo would keep him on staff at ILL needs to die.

Yes. It's Sam Snelling who said that. He runs Mizzou's Rock M Nation. He's from St. Louis. He tweeted it I think.

I think that's a pretty good slate of predictions.

Not Muller to WSU though. An alum isn't selling out within his own conference like that.

MizNoz probably threw in an extra $500K per year after watching the Cal game last night.

This seems alarmingly plausible to me. Maybe without the apocalypse part (or maybe not).

I know this is not your first travel through time. However, I'm concerned why such an expert time traveler would spill so many beans. No one should know that much about their future.

Gregory was one of those guys that's great at a place like Dayton, but was just god-awful terribad at Tech. If you thought Groce's in-game adjustments were lacking, Gregory sets a new low standard.

Any chance we can convince Alford to take the Illinois job?

Please no. I can't stand that guy, and I can't see him wanting to coach against IU every season.

Didn't Gregory just take the job at UCF? (or some other directional Florida school?)
