No, like physically oily to the touch.
OK that was pretty good.

Everyone jump on the Keatts train!
I agree that Bennett's title/resume is far superior to all these guys, but don't you think Miller (Dayton HC) and Marshall (WSU HC) would blend right in with this list?
Troubling hypothetical:
Alford to IU
Scott Drew to UCLA
Buzz Williams to Baylor
Archie Miller to NCST
Marshall, Bennett, and Bryce Drew stay put
If it goes down like that, it will be Kevin Keatts or bust. While we'll be the best job on the market, we'll still have to fend off Cal, Washington, Va Tech, LSU, Dayton, and whatever else opens up. If we try to lowball Keatts, or offend him by pursuing 2-3 other candidates who merely leverage our interest to get raises, we could be in a tough spot. Essentially, if one more big job opens (UCLA or wherever) and Bennett and Marshall decide to stay, the musical chairs analogy looks like one chair (coach) with 5+ desperate players. I hope Whitman is moving fast in case that very plausible scenario comes to bear.
IU being open is tough, but I wouldn't automatically call it a better overall job than Illinois.
Not sure you want to take that train. You'll be crying lately thinking about the world as it is.
Again, with whom is his stock elevated? The only people that really matter at this point are P5 ADs looking for a basketball coach. That's less than 10 people, and do you really think that IU or N.C. State isn't aware of Keatts?
Before the tournament though, Keatts may not receive the attention or even approval from someone like Indiana (especially), or even Illinois. But getting a huge upset win in the tournament, or possibly even advancing further, will elevate his stock for positions. You strike out with Bennett (IMO very possible, I think he stays at UVA), and Archie (also possible), Martin is already off the board, you may be all of a sudden competing with more schools for Keatts (e.g., Indiana).
Right. If someone is going to let one game change their opinion of Keatts, they're dumb.
There are dumb AD's out there. I hear NC State's is one of them.
And of course, if we're talking about like an Elite Eight or Final Four run, you're starting to make the resume look substantively different.
But in general, a great deal probably does not ride on this game.
You can call it whatever you like.
Indiana is a better job than Illinois.
I agree with BananaShampoo.
Why?
It's just amazing how much uncertainty there is right now. I just wanna know.
Self was known as a recruiter at Tulsa?
It has nothing to do with being aware, it has to do with elevating your stock to the point that you become a candidate for certain jobs. I am certainly aware of Keatts, he is very involved in AAU and recruiting, and he has obviously been very high on my list from the very beginning.

The ADs for Indiana and NCSU didn't fire established coaches to replace them with a relative unknown such as Keatts. Gottfried and Crean both have gotten their teams to the NCAAs most years, and that's not enough for those schools.
You do know he was an assistant coach for a while right????
Simple: more of everything. Anything we can do, they can do better.
It's not even terribly close.
One of these things is not like the other.
What can they do considerably better? They split the state with 2 other regular tournament teams, they aren't going to pay considerably better, and they have unrealistic expectations/egos where if it's not Billy D or Brad Stevens there is going to be crying day one about the hire. Greg Marshall won't want to deal with it.
If you want to actually discuss this instead of "because I say so" let me know.

You mean during those loaded late 80's Oklahoma St teams?
