The new basketball uniforms

Does anyone know if we can lose our Elite status with Nike? I agree with Bailey that Nike doesn't give the Illini the same treatment as a MSU, Kentucky, UNC, etc. But part of it has to do with the lack of on court success I would imagine. The time Illini's gear kept up with Nike's latest was the BP3 and DJ's last year.

I agree that we most likely aren't getting personalized KD's with Illini shields or orange and blue LeBrons with huge I's on them, but to say that Nike isn't making their newest standard-model basketball shoes available to a B1G sponsored team is absurd. If for some reason a specific shoe isn't given to a player, I'm sure the team and athletic department has the means to purchase any Nike product.

Nike Hyperdunks are generally considered the standard model team shoe for the brand. The retail release is later this summer.

Just for the sake of argument, let's see how long the gap of time is between when Sparty gets their standard team color issue of the shoe, and when Illinois gets theirs. In years past, there's been a considerable lag.

Isn't that more of Sparty getting them early than Illinois getting them late? The handful of elite's definitely get preferential treatment with personalized shoes, but the way I read some comments was about Illinois not having access to current shoes and in some cases being given year-old products.

Illinois is getting nearly $4.5 million in Nike equipment per year. If they truly aren't giving our 15 basketball players access to the top-of-the-line available shoes, Whitman needs to void that contract yesterday and have Under Armour and Adidas lined up and ready. It just makes zero sense for Nike or Illinois.

Really good article. I think unfortunently that Illinois doesn't receive as many sneakers as Michigan St, but would think that the players get more equipment than schools like Butler.

I just hope that if bu turns us around like we all think he will, which will lead to more espn, cbs etc prime slot games, we start getting better stuff.

I'm not a super shoe guy like bailey and some others, but I know enough to know that telling a kid that custom, brand new KDs or LBJs or Jordan's would be in his locker one day, he'd listen that much more.

Love these jerseys Townie and would be happy with all of them. That said, I had one in mind that I hoped I could see first to better judge if I liked or not and maybe you had those certain set of skills to make that happen. Not sure how much of a fan you are of the Illini shield, but if you are and have time maybe you could show us all a jersey creation similar to these from Mich St and UNC? A similar Illini jersey like these but with the shield above the player numbers. I think it could be cool, but I could understand if folks hated it too. Let's just see and find out ey?

Along the lines of this look, I've always been a fan of Illinois State's Doug Collins-era throwback. Might be cool to see a modern Illini version.

Top is fine; I'll take a hard pass on the candy striped shorts.

I think that the shorts are pretty cool. Wouldn't want to wear them every game (and I don't think they would look as good in orange and blue) but I think they are kind of fun once or twice per year.

Nope. Too reminiscent of IU's clown pants.

Yeah, IU would be all over us. I don't want to be accused of copying IU.

Please don't get me wrong...I'm not saying that we should do it. I'm just saying that I like the red/white shorts and my guess is that ISU's players would like them too for a game or two each year.

So here are a couple of articles on the Portland Trailblazers' rebranding with Nike taking over the contract. Even if you are not a Blazers fan there is a lot covered in these articles, if you pay close attention. I found the process they went through very interesting, as well as some of the background for some of the more subtle changes they made. Also, looks like the NBA is moving towards jersey sponsors too. And it looks like that could even be different than the stadium's sponsor. At some point this is going to hit NCAA level teams I would expect.

May have been discussed already, but will the team be getting new uniforms for the upcoming season? Lots of discussion here on styles, etc., but unsure if they're being ordered.

Count me as "pro" if these are the replacements. I like the partial side stripe, similar to the football pants.

I agree. I'd be happy with those as well. But it doesn't have the Illinois font from the rebrand. Where is that picture from?
