I guess it's kind of a moot point by now, but I'm wondering how long this has been in the works before all parties decided to make it public, this Jeff and Chayce thing.

I've been saying for months that a grad transfer QB was a high priority. Now, it is critical. Hopefully our OC/QB coach is on it. Oh wait . . . :tsk:

Can we scour the transfer market for a new OC, then a QB? We need bof’em.

Pure speculation here but since both Chase and Jeff announced departures on the same day, I think it makes sense that the new OC is bringing a dual threat QB. What makes sense to me, if Summlin doesn't retain Rod Smith, would Brandon Dawkins follow him???

In my estimation, the Uncle Rico GIF is the GOAT! Sad that we're on the precipice of that being a reality.

Woah totally missed the JGJ/Crouch news yesterday. So we basically only have one viable QB (Thomas) for spring ball so far??

My 9 year old grandson calls himself, Lucas the Goat. When I asked him what goat means, he said Greatest of All Time.

"Viable" might be a stretch for Thomas. Not enough data to evaluate but he hit on 42% of his passes and threw five interceptions vs. zero touchdowns. Still, given our offensive line, his ability to scramble is a plus.

Yes perhaps viable was not the correct term. He was as awful at passing as JGJ. How about "QB who isn't a walk-on who looks 12 years old but is a body we can use in desperate situations?"

I think we’ve seen enough of Chase and Jeff on the field to know they just don’t have the abilty to compete and win in the B1G.
I hope Jeff lands somewhere where he can play well.

Yup. I posted on this earlier. Thomas isn’t a viable starting QB in the B1G. And yet, he’s the best we have at this point. He’s a guy i would have liked to have seen as a RS junior, not as a sophomore starting.

FAU quarterback Jason Driskell just announced he is not coming back for his 5th year and will pursue a career in Civil Engineering , as he graduates in May

if there was ever a perfect school for him to land at and get a MS in CivEng,, its at UIUC.

get him, Lovie

I'm sure the same was said after Kurt Kittner's Freshman year.

We don't yet know what Thomas is capable of in year 2.

I agree - he was rushed into service. If he had been able to redshirt last year, spent this year learning the offense, he might have had great Jr/Sr years. We just don't know now. If he puts the work in and is provided the right folks to learn from he might mature into something special. Jury's out. It wouldn't hurt to have an experienced team of Jr's/Sr's to lean on either much less a very solid line that goes more than one deep at some positions.

Although tuning into this thread a couple times a day to read the latest whinging and whining has been super entertaining, I am looking forward to the new staff announcements.

Then I can look forward to more whinging and whining about what a terrible choice it is, how this was handled all wrong, how we're doomed, etc. You guys know the drill. ;)

Don't forget lex! We will also get educated about how these hires screwed up the narrative!

He is retiring from football.

They are controlling the narrative here - bad news followed by good news. Thats my take. We'll see the football staff announcements soon, then followed by a transfer QB which was a "package deal" with the new OC.

At least, thats what I keep telling myself to stay sane... :thumb:
