I saw that the Tn linebacker was in the portal. Would love to see him in OandB this fall. He was a monster at Tn. He surely would shore up that part of the def.

Doesn't fit the mold of our type of transfer (looking for more PT), I'm sure he's looking for an upgrade from Tennessee.

It feels like Bielema is playing chess and is thinking steps ahead with every move so far

Love that pickup with Smith. He is bringing in 3 and 4 star transfers and recruits and landing them already. Big difference is Bielema will develop them!

Alabama transfer DB ....I would think this is good

Could be a good one. According to the article, he was the No. 435 overall prospect in the Class of 2018. It also appears that he had more than 25 scholarship offers, including Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, TCU, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

Yep, like I mentioned before with a potential 'Bama coach considered here, just bring the odor of the Alabama locker room, a blade of grass from their field, maybe some fibers from their uniforms.....good for 1 win per year.
I would say Ritchie Petitbon disproves that....but when you think about it, maybe he's actually evidence in favor?

Petitbon did quite well in his one year adjusting to a new team/culture/system so yeah I think he'd be evidence in favor.
Yeah he was no superstar (Kramer and Green were both better players), but he was solid and reliable, and you hope that anyone who has been a player in good standing at Bama will be like that. And that does really help a team.

And of course, DB's are Nick Saban's obsession, anybody who was recruited by Nick Saban to be a Bama DB has been deemed a really good football player by one of the best scouts to ever coach in college football. And now we have two of them in Eddie Smith and Isaiah Williams.

So we're at 20 total newcomers based on 247's numbers. Not sure what the roster size was at but with attrition (granted there hasn't been too much) I assume we can use the entire 5 openings for transfers/freshman?

This is a great pickup. Still need to add one more DB atleast. This should give the staff some flexibility on where they want to play Tony Adams.

Maybe more since we had 5 early enrollees who might be back-counted (I don't know if anyone has the intel on this).

And then of course the current NCAA rules would leave us and every other school with roughly zero schollies to give out next year. No idea how that's going to play out.

I was under the impression that, even though the 25 additions/yr limitation is still in effect, there are currently no roster size limitations in place due to the free year from the pandemic.

My understanding is that it is still a cap of 85, but your own returning seniors don't count against it.

Take Eddie Smith, Beason, and Adams that gives us three good db's for the coaches to work with. Did he get much playing time at AL? But his offer list is impressive. Now if we could get the lber out of TN that would really help.

Agreed about Whitherspoon. This will give our freshmen Db time to settle in to the college game. Remember Hobbs and Adams got thrown in the fire like Gay their freshman year. Looking forward to a good season in 21.

Great pick-up.

He has one thing no-one within the football program has, coach or player, a National Championship. Even in a limited role at Alabama, the preparation he has received has to be another plus to him joining the Team and DB Room.
