You’re in for a treat then
This has to mean that the accuser is recanting important aspects of the accusations. Otherwise this prosecutor has some questions to answer. Victims need to be believed but there has to be an understanding of how charges like this impact lives.

I believe you but I’m baffled on what could be happening behind the scenes that could lead to this much confidence. Whatever it is, I hope it’s enough to change the perception of how the public views him and the program.
No info, but my guess is a DA who's embroiled in controversy has a lot to do with it.

Side note, I think we all got the impression during JW's press conference that he was not impressed with the Lawrence PD's investigation and communication leading up to the charges being filed. I wonder if a big part of that was the PD just going through the motions because they assumed no DA in their right mind would actually bring charges.

Well we need to step back on that one. Most often. Of course, sometimes you get a first time DA whose background is as a law professor with an ideological bent. No wars, no experience to the intrigue, the political pressure from the political side and the police. I can think of a worst preparatory experience for a first time DA but nothing is coming to me at the moment. Probably akin to my high school baseball preparing me to hit a vintage Chris Sale slider.

Not sure people appreciate the position this woman is in. Not saying it is the thin blue line but not all that far off either. They have brought disciplinary charges against a sitting DA and requesting a one year suspension. Trust me, this is not the sporting life. You can be assured they had their ducks in a row before ever taking this step. Far better lined up than this DA had her facts when she initiated her criminal charges in this instance.

You can bet your bar buddies the coldest beer she is going down. Only the extent of the discipline is going to be the issue. So now what. Sit on your heels for a year and go back to normal? Not hardly, the disciplinary panel makes a recommendation to the state supreme court who is final arbiter. Want to get reinstated, you have to apply but you also show you have mended your ways and you are a reformed soldier.
Go back to being a law professor, well I can teach these impressionable law students how to be the highest legal person in a county and get suspended from the practice for a year. Maybe at Harvard or some other liberal bastion of higher learning but KU. Maybe or maybe not.

She has a great deal at stake here before this mess happened, which I am confident will turn out to be a mess of her own making. Already under the precipice and you file high profile charges on a marginal case. This whole thing never made sense. She needs to worry about damage control.
mrh vet: Really glad that you decided to start posting yesterday and are sharing your 40 years of experience, expertise and insight as a former Prosecutor and trial lawyer with this Board.
Adding to your comments about the situation the DA finds herself in, there is ZERO chance that District Attorney Valdez could return to her prior Law Professor position at Kansas. She burned that bridge on her way out the door when she became embroiled in a publicly charged pay dispute that ultimately resulted in her resignation on January 28, 2021 while on administrative leave from the Law School:
Kansas City Star, KU Threatens to Fire New Douglas County DA, She Claims Retaliation and Discrimination:
Four days before she was set to be sworn in as the new Douglas County District Attorney, the University of Kansas placed Suzanne Valdez on administrative leave Thursday with the possibility of dismissal for her conduct in a pay dispute with the law school.
This 2021 dispute with her former employer came just two years after a settlement was reached between Professor Valdez and the law school in May of 2019 over prior allegations of pay discrimination. The settlement of the 2019 matter included a non-disparagement clause barring Valdez from speaking or publishing negative comments about law school Dean Mazza and the university. So much for the paper that was written on . . .
Given her background, damage control does not appear to be one of DA Valdez's strengths and I fear that TSJ could end up as collateral damage as this legal process drags out. Sure hope that I am wrong.

Man, I thought we've had some real gems in elected offices here in Illinois over the years. If even half of what this DA is reported to have done is accurate, she may be one of the worst elected officials in the history of elected officials.

Well put. The scenario you present re: a law professor stepping would be maybe the worst scenario one could imagine, not understanding that politics are a blood sport.

Glass half full vs glass half empty.

As just a fan I’m hoping he’s innocent and am happy to view things through orange tinted glasses until an actual conviction or some piece of overwhelmingly obvious evidence appears, as long as we stay away from things like alleged victim shaming.

Knowing that, like recruiting battles, I also have to consider that our insiders are likely getting news from people close to the program with their own orange tinted glasses. The situation can change at any moment.

Bryce you sweet sweet boy, if ruining her own career and one college basketball player's life was the worst thing an elected official ever did we'd all be living in paradise

What specifically? It's a freakin' 62 page document . . .

Think he is saying it does not contain an entry for TSJ's hearing on the 18th, so reading between the lines, perhaps already been removed from the docket?

EDIT: If this is what is being asked, please refer to the colored/highlighted text at the start of the document.

Once some established facts started coming out, the whole scenario did not make a scintilla of sense. The missing piece for me was the DA. After learning more, it does. She was in over her head from day one on this situation. You get yourself in such a situation you check your ego at the door and ask for advice from one of your deputies who has had years of experience.

0440 knows of what he speaks. The come to Jesus meeting has already taken place or is in the works. I suspect her accuser has her attorney involved. Details to work out as in no criminal charges for filing a false police report. Probably getting a release from Shannon for any civil damages he might have against her. Will take a little while, I am sure the DA is trying to put the best spin on an abysmal situation.

I would expect it is all over except the shouting. The problem is when a situation like this meets its inevitable death it is never with the same fanfare with which it was given birth. A shame he had to go through this and no, he will not be better for it.
