That’s the best case scenario for TSJ if true. That girl’s credibility will be completely gone if Self has receipts on that type of stuff and hopefully they can get her to recant.
I am not legal expert but I can not believe a DA would charge him with rape if this woman had a previous track record of trying this.. But who am i to question anything. This all seems to be a real stretch.

Agenda driven prosecutions are a real thing.

I have no idea if this one falls in that category. But there's enough of it around that you're justified in being a bit skeptical of any filing.

Question for the attorneys on the site. When can TSJ sue for defamation? Can he do it proactively right now, or is there an advantage in waiting?
Defamation in Kansas requires proof of false words, communicated to a third party, that caused reputational harm. He’ll want a verdict before going that route. I can’t imagine he files a civil suit if they do drop the charges before trial.

The advantage in waiting is that he cannot be forced to testify under oath in a deposition. There is just too much downside risk in that.

And this prosecutor/TJ’s prosecution could be completely legit and TJ could have done some horrible things and deserve to go to jail for a long time.

But, this DA is a former professor who ran for DA because a KU student was charged with filing a false rape charge and she didn’t think the office was doing enough to protect women. Her bio on her website also emphasizes sexual assault and related crimes. Those, along with her disciplinary action showing she may be a bit unhinged, certainly creates the possibility this charge is a stretch and/or ideologically driven.

We won’t know for sure until more facts come out and we will probably never know for sure what really happened.

Did you see the DA past/history and some of the inflammatory public comments she has made about men? She's seems an very fanatical, the type that would reach for the torch and pitchfork. It was publicly reported that court officials are afraid to meet with her in in-person and insist on written communications for fear she will twist their words.

Maybe letting it be known that this is the route they intend to take can put some heat on the parties to drop charges?

It's been interesting looking at the Twitter interactions. This first tweet was retweeted by the account that says they are the official NIL agent for 2 current basketball players and 1 football player. Demetri McCamey also liked it.

Saw Sam McClaurin also tweeted that he thinks Shannon is innnocent.

Sam McClaurin. No filter, always straight to the point.

Not an attorney, but in my opinion, if TSJ wants to play again this season (or get drafted this year) then it is probably in his best interest to make this go away as quickly and quietly as possible. Hold your nose, make a payment or whatever and move on with life. Seeking retribution is a great way to drag this out and potentially screw up his pro prospects.

All this is being said with the presumption of his innocence. If he's guilty then it's a different story.

Practiced for 30 years in Champaign. He can sue anytime, frankly, almost anybody can sue anybody at any time. It's why I made such a great living defending clients. There is a big difference between what he can do, and what he should do. I agree with the previous poster that you do not want him s/t deposition while this mess is pending. But, I'm of the opinion that he can wait for at least a year to see what surfaces. There's NO statute of limitations problem at all. More important, what will TSJ need with a pittance from the accuser if the entire case disappears? The NBA pays just a little better than the judgment in a Kansas slander case. A defamation case just allows the whole sordid mess to resurface. Move on, unless the accuser persists in pursuing the issues.

Doesn't mean anything, we aren't getting any REAL news for like 16 days

Very unlikely we even get anything useful on Jan 18. From what I understand, everyone just shows up, they read the charges, attorney's can ask questions and such. Judge says ok see you all back here in March/April/May/etcetera.

Who’s the guy in the middle? Saw him sitting in the first row at the game? He was wearing a $1,000 sweater; so I thought he might be someone special.
David Emuze. Ran track at UI a few years ago. Now does photography for sporting events. Heck of an athlete in HS at Springfield Southeast. He’s close with a bunch of current football and basketball players.
