Like many of you, I have watched every minute of Ty's play in the FIBA tournament and it is true that he controls the action while he's in there. However, there's a reason that he has maxed out at seven points in three games. Until he hits (or even attempts!) a shot longer than a dunk or a lay-up he is not ready for prime time. Not saying he won't eventually be great, but compared toNick Anderson, lottery pick from the Flyin' Illini? C'mon!!

The one who reminds me of Nick out there is WHITMORE. He's hitting dunks...and threes...and everything between. I wish we could have recruited him. I saw every game Nick played and that's how he played ball...everything down-hill...a savage scorer. a dunker, a jump-shooter and maybe my favorite Illini ever.

We are SO fortunate to have Ty, but let's pump the brakes a little. If he's not scoring against 17 year old's, he has a lot to learn. And who's place is he going to take? Skyy? Shannon? Melindez? Meyer?

Let him grow! He's got tons to work on!
Ty's biggest attributes are his ballhawking D, IQ, and court vision. He just seems to know where to be and what to do. I'm really not sure who to compare him to with respect to past Illini. It's early.

There's a fine line between drinking too much and not drinking enough.....................................Elusive that line is ............It really really is...............

Spot is such a good dog , a wuss as far as drinking , but we love him so........................................
Would be interesting to get a genetic test unless you know already. We just got a new one, and he has 14 percent mountain cur. This one's facial markings are similar.

Other than similar height and weight, Ty and Nick Anderson are pretty different players. Nick was wired to score. Before transferring to Simeon, he average 42 ppg. If you're going to compare him to sometime on the 89 team, I'd probably go with Battle, though I don't think that's a great comp;arison either. Battle was pretty wired to score also, though he didn't have as many ways to do it as Nick.

Ty made a flotadora in the lane and could have made more if any of his teammates had been willing to engage in a give and go and pass back to Ty when he flashed open in the paint after a pass. With the Illini he should get some of those passes back for easy scores.
Ah, the flotadora truly is the prettiest shot in basketball :love::love::love:👌👌😩😩😩

Rodgers is gonna be a good player, he has a DaMonte Williams Floor imo (that doesn't necessarily mean True Freshman Ty will be as good as 5th year DaMonte, but it'd be nice if he is). Get the sense that he needs to work on his shooting a lot more, and I think he could stand to be a better finisher to become an overall better scorer. His only real blemish yesterday was he missed a dunk, but the USA were up 40 at the time so more forgivable than if that occurred would be in a key Big Ten Game. TBD on playing time. There's a lot of competition at his spot.

USA as a whole was 4/16 from 3 and 8/20 from free throw. Canada has not looked too great going 2-1 with a mediocre +5 point differential.

Yeah, in all honesty, Ty is closer to Bardo than he is to anyone else on that 89 team

Hadn't thought of that, but might be the closest comparison, though still not that close.

The closest in terms of size and versatile skill set might be the late Mark Smith from Peoria Richwoods. Both around 6-7 and plus athletes, with point forward skills, mid range and post game, etc. However, Smith, as I recall, was more laid back in his approach to the game. Rodgers plays with the aggressiveness of Smith's team mate Neil Bresnahan.

over 3 games; 20 points, 19 rebounds, 11 assists in about 45 minutes.

Rodgers is going to be much better than Damonte. He is taller and bigger which will allow him to guard, and potentially lock down 2-4. He is going to be a much better facilitator and distributor, as well as a better rebounder. He's going to be better going to the rim. I see Rodgers as a 6 or 7 ppg, 6 or7 rbg, and 6 or 7 apg type of player. If his shooting comes around, even better.

So if he played 30, about 14 ppg 12 rpg and 7 assists?

6 or 7 apg??? The school record is 7.1 by McCamey in 2010. We have had four players average more than 6 per game for a season - McCamey, D. Williams, Wysinger and Douglas. Trent was just over 4, as was Ayo.

Agreed, he will be better. That's just why I note it as a floor, a worst case scenario so long as he stays healthy. His ceiling is quite a bit higher.

I absolutely stand by my statement. Now I didn't say it was going to happen, I said that's how I see him.

He averaged 15, 14, and 7 in high school. Now granted college is more challenging, but I think Underwood would be a fool not to utilize Rodgers to facilitate the offense. If you have a strong defender pressuring the PG, we can say ok, lets see how your SF or even PF does against Rodgers facilitating the offense. When we have more shooters on the team, a guy like Rodgers who can drive and dish can add assists, and you can't let a 6'6" athlete drive and assume the C can handle it like a 6'2" guard. Rodgers from the pinch post or working the high low. He has a PGs vision and passing ability. We can use those skills all over the court in ways a traditional PG isn't used.

Whether or not he gets to 6 or 7 assists will come down to how he is asked to play by the staff. I just think they'd be fools not to use his PG schools in creative ways.

You make a good point but Ty made a couple of drives where he reminded me of DWILL where he drove with the main purpose of drawing his teammate's low post defender so he could dish for the open layup. Also, with .7 seconds left in the half half he lead his teammate with the inbounds pass so that the teammate could step into a half court shot in rhythm. Ty has elite passing skills.

With the number of potential distributors we should have, 6-7 would be a lot but certainly not impossible. That would have him leading the team in APG and be top 20 in the nation which is tough to see but would love it to happen!

I was going to mention he sort of reminds me of Deron, but I chickened out.
