Week 1 Games

From what I saw, it's both. Minnesota's run game was completely non-existent as not only did their RB look like a gigantic drop-off from Ibrahim, but their run protection was awful as well as their new interior linemen struggled. As for Fleck's time management, it was pretty awful with several head-scratching time management decisions that all happened to work out due to Nebraska Nebraskaing themselves.

And speaking of Nebraska, Sims was very good at running the option and it was very effective against Minnesota the whole game. They never stopped it. The whole game. And every time Nebraska ran it they'd get at least an automatic 4 yds. Meanwhile, when you've let Sims throw the ball, a good 50% of the time it's an unmitigated disaster. So why up by a touchdown with 7minutes left in the game do you decide to almost exclusively rely on your noodle armed quarterback instead of sticking with what has worked all game long? Just blows my mind.
Minny's run game was decent for the first quarter and a half, then it petered out. Without Ibrahim, they aren't that good. Besides that, the QB throws sidearm, which is going to result in alot of passes batted down at the line of scrimmage.

So I check out the Kansas game tracker and I see “1st & 10 at MOST 17”

And I’m like what, so it’s first & 10, but it could be first & 17, at most?

Then I realize that’s the initials of the team haha.

The color commentator in this KU game is a moron. By far the dumbest guy I've ever heard on a broadcast.

The sideline reporter for the EIU-Indiana State game last night called EIU the Cougars in at least two different sideline reports.

I love how he called MizSt “Minnesota State” multiple times in the first quarter.

Perhaps he thought KU was facing Coach Fox and the Screamin' Eagles.

Those highlights looked pretty standard to me…like a Div 1, P5 team beating up on an FCS team as they should. Not so much that Kansas is good, just that Missouri State is FCS.

Those running lanes will close quicker, cut back lanes won’t be there, and the defense will be more assignment sound when Kansas sees us.

That being said, the thing I AM worried about is the blown coverages. It happened to Missouri State but with such a new secondary (safeties really), it could happen to us.

Watching Purdue, it's amazing how their crowds have grown since they hired Brohm, despite being consistently mediocre. In 2015 under Hazel, no one was there - less than half capacity.

I hope in a couple years we can sell out an opener against the likes of Fresno State.

Not subbing on offense is a legit strategy if you have versatile athletes. Probulably the wave of the future schematically.

I mean under Brohm they went to bowl games 4/6 years, just won the Big Ten West, got the big QB transfer and as we all know, an exciting new coach. Brohm ended up 0.500 in the B1G but was 12-6 the last two years combined. I wouldn't call that mediocre. We'd all kill to have a back to back 6-3 B1G season lol. That's as many B1G wins in 2 years than we had with Cubit and Lovie combined.

(Never tell my Purdue friends I defended them)

Which is funny as that used to be the norm in football not to sub, but you are right if you can run no huddle no sub and formation the heck out of a D you could have some pretty legit big plays

What's this no sub you guys are talking about? I'm dialed in to the games now.
