Did Bruce Weber have a face lift or a lot of Botox recently. Gosh Purdue has someone on the bench bigger than Edy. Red curly hair. Does Painter grow them in a lab ?
Nope, he just convinces them that he can land them a contract in Eastern Europe somewhere.

Boo said in post-game it was a battle of the 2 best players in college basketball...I think I like that he would say that even if I don't agree

I'm going to start feeling bad for Painter if his teams keep finding ways to lose the unloseable games.
I only caught the entirety of overtime but sure looks like Purdues back court still isn't ready for primetime.
Would someone tell the refs that Fletcher just flops 3-4 times a game? Sheesh! Not a very athletic backcourt at all. High IQ, talented, but Fairleigh easy to guard.

Yes...we have some competition for being the worst FT shooting team in the B10
Yeah, I'm afraid I might have a nightmare tonight, where my team's starting 5 are:

Blake Preston, who went 2-7 from the line tonight for NW,
Dain Dainja, who went 0-6 against Valpo, and about whom Underwood spoke of nerve damage,
Sencire Harris, famous for shooting 20% from the line last season,
Ty Rodgers, a consistent 50% FT shooter going all the way back to HS, and
DGL, who looks over at me after he accidently banks in a FT and says: "No worries, buddy. My teammates call me Mr. Ice."

And then I wake up screaming, "Noooo!"

Northwestern over Purdue is an incredibly odd stat compare.

-Purdue crushed cats on boards at 55 to 36
- Cats won TO battle 3 to 17
-Cats shot 10/20 3p to boilers 5/19
- Cats pull out OT shocker...

I'll watch on replay, looks like I missed a great game

Collins is a better coach than I ever figured he would be. Nice win NU
I was very much in favor of bringing Collins in post Groce. There were maybe 2 others on that island, he was not a very popular choice, but I think what he's done at Northwestern is extremely impressive. That has to be one of the hardest P6 basketball schools to coach at in the nation, and he's got them to be actually good from time to time.

He wasn't my #1, that is pretty much always Buzz Williams, but Collins was definitely in my top 3. Can't remember who the other guy was. I really hope it was Reggie Theus.

IMO, best coach in B10. Rarely gets big 4/5 stars and always wins. Izzo gets all the top 40 players he wants, Painter is the better coach.

Purdue gets plenty of 4 star recruits.

Their 2020 class had 2 4 stars (Jaden Ivey being one) and 3-star Edey.
Their 2021 class had two top 70 players.
Their 2022 class had a four star.
Their 2023 class had a four star.

Purdue, more so than any other school that I know of, recruits to a system. Painter wants a giant, back to the basket guy in the middle, a ring of 3 point shooters, and at least 1 athlete.

Every year he recruits those same roles. Obvious everyone wants highly rated recruits that can do it all, everyone wants the best 3 point shooter or big man in the nation, but year after year it's those roles with Painter. And it has been consistently successful. Because they don't typically get highly rated recruits, and are often a bit slow footed, in a tournament game, swarming defense can beat them. Purdue has performed the best in the tournament when they've had a guy that can get points and not necessarily rely on the offense: Jaden Ivey, Carsen Edwards, Robbie Hummel.

I still think the Bill Cole over Robbie Hummel was the worst Illinois recruiting failure in Illini basketball history. I know there was family connections at play, but wow was Hummel significantly better than Cole, and we could have had either.

Flops, grabs his face in mock pain, over and over again. It's like watching a UEFA match.

Sure. I was just responding to a guy who said Purdue doesn't get many 4/5 star recruits and that's just patently false. They get plenty. And like you said, Painter does a good job of getting the right ones for his system.

They've got 2 top 75 guys, including a top 30 kid committed for 2024 (Catchings, who I really wish Illinois could have landed).

Like how you said "plenty" and then listed only 6 across 4 years of recruiting. I believe they only have two 4 stars on this current team that is ranked #1 in the country. Also, why list Edey (a 3 star who Painter coached him to the level of where he is sort of the face of CBB)? That doesn't help what I think you were trying to portray with your post.

If you're only talking about the last few seasons, I would also give the edge to Painter. But, overall Izzo has the better track record / results and it isn't really close.

Wisconsin up 9 at home versus Marquette. Saw Badgers earlier in the year and they looked improved so far.

It helps that Kolek looks very pedestrian against them right now. Wisconsin is also DESTROYING them on the boards & typical Wisconsin home cooking with a 14-15 to 5-8 free throw discrepancy. Turning into to a good ole fashion butt whoopin!

Badgers killing Marquette on the boards with a 20 to 10 advantage and 8 to 2 in offensive rebounds.

Badgers up 15!

Kids from Canada don't get evaluated by recruiting services to the extent American kids do - that's why I listed Edey. If Edey was from the States, I can guarantee you he'd be rated higher than Jakstys who is a borderline 4 star at #110 overall on 247.

6 over 4 years in the transfer portal era is pretty damn good.

Compare it to us:

2024 - 1 4-star
2023 - 1 4-star
2022 - 4 4-star
2012 - 2 4-star

They're not recruiting at a level significantly different than we are. And they actually keep their highly rated recruits.
