And someone, ANYONE, please tell LaRoche that if he actually swings the bat, he actually might put the ball in play and have a fighting chance. LaRoche took the sombrero today, 0fer with 4 Ks. Pathetic. Dude...SWING!!!:mad:

This series was a joke all around. A comedy of errors on defense. An extreme lack of run support, especially for Sale.

Mark Parent lets Sale go 125 pitches?!?!? Are you kidding me? Even Ventura wouldn't do that.

Poor hitting with RISP, awful defense at nearly every position. Shoddy pen work. BAD baserunning again. Bad managing.

Also, Tyler Flowers will eventually seriously hurt somebody after throwing his bat into the stands. Put some pine tar on your batting gloves for the love of God.

Even my SIL, a diehard Scrubbies fan, asked me...what happened to the White Sox? Didn't really have an answer...

We're bad!

Yes, yes we are. And there isn't much reason for optimism. Our weakness is the position players, and we don't have anything remotely close to contributing there. It's easy to say punt and build for next year, but I don't think we have the players that will bring back guys who will make a difference next year.

I kinda thought that's what we did LAST winter...

I swear "Invasion of the bodysnatchers" came in and grabbed Alexi, as I'm not sure who that is out at SS these days. At least Beckaham played an awesome 3rd last night, but then, the Pirates were sending frozen ropes down that way, thanks to Rodon's VERY hittable pitches.

Quintana goes tonight, see if he gets his usual 1...MAYBE 2 run support...

In Future News: Jose Quintana tosses first no-hitter of career as hapless White Sox fall to Pirates, 4-0.

Padres go big in the offseason in hopes for immediate contention, fall on their faces, and start knocking down walls. Bud Black shown the door first.

Take note Hahn.

Tinkering around with fangraphs today...and look at this comically bad reality! There is only one team in baseball whose entire offense has generated a negative WAR. Can you guess who - and even more staggeringly - how far below zero?

EDIT: The defensive metrics would suggest we might just be the worst in baseball in this category as well! Dark days, friends. Still trying to figure out how to generate TWTW numbers on here.

What are the numbers in the "Off" and "Def" columns? I do not see explanations. Clearly they are some quantification of offensive and defensive contributions, but I don't know how to interpret them. Nevertheless, we are second worst in each category. Furthermore, the Sox, Phillies, and Brewers are really in a class by themselves offensively while the Sox and A's are in a class by themselves defensively. We have a couple good arms who will waste their best years with pathetic position players.

This team is unfathomably bad. Run differential is now minus 67, worst in the AL. Unbelievable. And for a team that was supposed to compete. The craziest thing is the Sox have actually been lucky. Their Pythagorean record is 24-39, meaning they're currently beating that by 4 games at 28-35. The only team in baseball that's scored fewer runs is the Phillies. Every single NL team with their pitcher batting besides the worst team in baseball has outscored the Sox. Heads should roll.

No doubt. Robin is a joke, but this is all predicated by Kenny Williams completely depleting the farm system over the course of his tenure, right?

A completely fair point. Kenny mismanaged the farm system horrifically, and exacerbated that problem heinously by drafting raw toolsy athletes year after year that never panned out. A failure of epic proportions.

That is exactly why it is hard to hold Robin or anyone accountable. Now, I think Robin is a bad manager. He fails to understand statistics and does not manage the bullpen well. But, it's hard to blame the coach when he has holes at nearly every position. Quite literally, the only position players that are not a complete joke IMO are Abreu and LaRoche, and LaRoche isn't that good. Every other position is in need of a dramatic change.

And there is no help on the way. As we discussed recently, we haven't drafted and developed an even adequate position player since the late 90s. That's pathetic.

I personally am not a fan of Robin, but I just don't think managers matter very much, and especially not in the AL.

You hit the nail on the head with the lack of position players that could even be described as adequate. You can imagine my shock when I saw Gordon Beckham mentioned in the same sentence as Evan Longoria earlier in this thread.

Generally, I agree with you - unless they over manage. I wish I had written down every time Robin flagrantly over-managed.

Managers can certainly hurt a team by poor bullpen management, bunting too much, batting their best hitter 7th, etc. But you are right that no manager is going to get this group of guys to win with any regularity.

As for Beckham and Longoria, poor Bob has a crush on him:). But really, there was some truth in his post. Unfortunately, the post should have been used to bring to light how diminished a player Longoria appears to be rather than how good of a player Beckham is.

The fact is we need players. Unfortunately, the FA crop will be thin again and we lack the necessary assets to acquire minor leaguers who can contribute to an MLB club next season. Maybe in 2017:(.

At what point does Hahn have to entertain the idea of dealing Sale? We don't have any position players, and maybe 2 position player prospects total. It's the sad truth.
