If he is set to go west, why's he waiting two more weeks?

If he is set to go to Indiana, why is he waiting 2 weeks?

If he is set to go to Illinois, why is he waiting 2 weeks?

not everything means something.

You are right; not everything means something. But, I think what the poster is meaning is that, "Why wait, if his mind is made up?"

This is torture for IU fans. Most of them expect him to pick UCLA and they're taking it personally that he's waiting so long for him to just say no to them.

If there was any chance of him picking IU still, it went out the window when IU fans started calling him out on twitter. They're salty.

For anybody from IL or IND who still thinks there might be maybe just a little chance.

IU "premium" boards have generally been a good source of information. Pegram/Rabjohns do a good job, and they have been pretty good trying to keep "premium" information "premium." I do not know what they have said on this one, but if they said that Wilkes is not going to IU, then Wilkes is not going to IU no matter what fans do on twitter.

The glimmer of hope here is that they aren't directly ruling out Illinois. They're all saying it's not Indiana. Then they jump to UCLA because they never considered Illinois a threat to begin with.

One thing I'm confused by is that we were in his top 3 but have we seen tweets or articles saying "UI is out" or "It's not UI"? I fully expect him to pick UCLA, but why no mention of us? I know we always seemed to be an afterthought in this recruitment so maybe all the writers/tweeters think it's a given that we were out but it's odd that nobody has said anything.

(I don't have any premium info so maybe it was said in a premium article)

Edit: SFC beat me to it!

Good for this kid. glad he made a decision that he feels is best for him. He's probably right that UCLA would give him the best shot at 1 and done...but it was nice thinking of a superclass that could've been.

ah well, never counted on him for the Beloved. At least he's not going to be a candy stripe. Best of luck to him.

Exactly. As huge as a get Wilkes would have been for us, it's also huge he and Scruggs didn't pick IU. If Bryant, OG and JBJ all leave after this year, the 2017-2018 Hoosiers could be pretty terrible.

Assuming they all leave, what does that team look like in 17/18? Upper classman would be Robert Johnson, Juwan Morgan and who else ?

In a way I feel for Indiana, because as Illini fans we have seen this play out in our own state. I remember the great class of 1998 (Magette, FW, Richardson, Simmons, Lance Williams, Lucas, Krup, J Range, others) and the 2008 (Rose, Turner, McCamey, etc...) and how we came up nearly empty. Some of those recruits had no chance of getting into Illinois, but the ones like Simmons and Turner they could of really helped during that time. Indiana is stacked this year, some are out of state recruits attending prep schools, but others are home grown.

At the same time do I like losing to IU by 20-30 pts, the answer is NO!

Any chance Wilkes is pulling an Elijah Thomas and picking one from out of nowhere (which would be us in this case)? I know the overwhelming consensus is UCLA, but...

I hope JG keeps pushing hard at the big time in-states. Would be huge to be able to land the locals, keep them interested and make them feel they are priorities

Groce does, as most previous coaches did. It is not so much a matter of focus, rather that top in-state recruits usually end up as pretty high national recruits who will always attract competition from big name schools.

I think you're misremembering the Elijah Thomas recruitment

I don't think that Tex AM was such a dark horse. Transferring to Clemson was probably a bigger surprise, I don't remember them being a final player in his recruitment. OKST, LSU, ILL, and TexAM are the teams I remember recruiting him to the end.

I was told nine days before he announced that A&M was where he was going, and I posted that on here. I had heard from a very good source that Illinois could not match their offer. :)
