This is a really bad look for Georgetown. They ran out a guy who wasn't doing a bad job and now nobody wants the position.
I just started grad school at G'town and from the locals I have had a chance to talk to (granted small sample size) sounds like fan base was in a similar place with where we were with Groce.
G'town's one NCAA tourney appearance in last four years only bests Groce by one. They haven't been able to reel in local talent like Illinois. And like Illinois they have a decent program history that has not met expectations of late.
Apparently there was even a student petition to have JT III fired. The feeling is that it is time to move on from living in/hanging onto the past. As someone else mentioned above this is probably the first step in a long term process of starting a new era.
I don't follow college basketball much outside of the Illini (and even that has been low in recent years) so take it for what its worth.
