Illini Coaching Staff

While I agree with that, so what? It is going to be hard for Illinois to get involved until we start showing a better and more consistent product on the court. I've said it before it will take a year or two of Underwood putting respectable teams on the floor before we will be able to get the types of recruits many on this board think we deserve.

Not getting Kiir may be a blessing in disguise for us as it forces a really heavy guard lineup that will be quick and fun to watch. There's no denying putting 3 of our guards out there and letting them run will be fun to watch. So let's own it and be happy we have the guys we do - like Frazier, who could already be my favorite player on the team.

.

My frustration is that it appears that the alternative chosen has been "recruit our way out of it and figure out the coaching side when we get there". I believed that was doomed to failure before Tilmon decommitted, and it is even moreso now.

Jeremiah Tilmon will not be an Illini. Mark Smith will not be an Illini. Ayo Dosunmu will not be an Illini. Mayan Kiir will not be an Illini. No uncommitted 2017 5-star will be an Illini. Sadly, it will take over a year and buckets of credibility for these existing truths to become established realities.

We have decided to tilt at windmills yet again. We will fail spectacularly

Man, we are usually on the same page, and it usually because you are taking people to task for message board tropes that are oftentimes simultaneously reductive and hysterical. Yet that's exactly what this is.

I think the combined assault on the senses that was Zook, Beckman, and Groce have left some of us completely unable to grasp the concept of what a competent head coach can do. Brad Underwood is not going to suddenly be adrift because he is unable to import nearly wholesale the entire organization he had in place at Oklahoma State (for all of one season, no less).

And don't get me started (again) on this notion that guys with solid recruiting reputations can only be gladhanders who have no utility in practice or games.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but that's an arbitrary measure of success.

Sure, but being from the Metro East, it's our favorite arbitrary measure since they have never been to one. Most likely other Metro East Illini fans would agree.

Chuck Martin is a name beginning to surface in the twittersphere. Wouldn't be mad at that, though he's a New York/east coast guy primarily. Top recruiter at IU the last few years. Martin as third asst, Stephen Gentry on support staff? Sounds good to me.

Did he get banned again?

Dan, isn't the entire purpose of this board to discuss Illinois basketball? That will entail disagreements from time to time.

Yes, but when the posts come out at more than 1/minute (because everyone realizes that he is being irrational and yet he needs to defend his honor) it tends to make actual discussion nearly impossible.

Edit: And this is coming from someone who is usually in 100% agreement with him...

Sure seems like he did. I suspect the issue wasn't disagreements so much as somewhat belligerently spouting tons of doom and gloom conjecture as fact. It sort of derailed the thread while he was actively posting.

I think he raises some valid points, whether people are comfortable digesting them or not.

Personally, I think he raises a few valid points and then buries them within a heap of other half-thoughts, and when people call him on it, he can't back down. He absolutely has to have the last word. It just derails any other conversation.

I think S&C is a national treasure. I often disagree with him but he is someone who almost always posts something worthwhile and interesting. Board is just not the same without him. #saveS&C

I already miss Chalmers honestly. He said things most of us don't want to hear but he was right more often than he was wrong. For example, I couldn't wait to hear his take on Orlando. Then I looked forward to an equally smart yet snarky take from Matty Cold. They are a huge part of the entertainment value of this board.

Personal or individual Disagreements between posters can derail the entire purpose of the thread.

Does it? It's not like he's being uncivil or berating people.

Is "Too much passion behind a totally topical and relevant opinion" now a bannable offense? Seems like a losing formula for growing a message board.

Bad Head Coach (record wise) Miami of Ohio lineage, and Crean assistant during a couple of years other than Bryant, not so good. Does have some defensive chops however? Meh, next?

You need to dig deeper into his resume.

Apparently some forum privileges and rule guidelines (para 2 & 3) are being broken. In the meantime, let's get our final assistant coach and move forward - go Illini.
