I remember BrooksTaylorFan got vilified for some prediction....

Btf took a beating for that one

DJAX was a "lock" is what led to the downfall of BTF. Too bad, I think we can all look back at home complicated that recruitment was at the last minute - Brey sealed it by taking his friend which we were not apparently ready to do.

Also, it is clear that Groce's staff was overly optimistic which lead to a lot of "insiders" passing on overconfident info on people coming to ILL.

I still say it was Quentin Snider reneging on signing day. Unlike with Jackson, Snider was actually committed all the way until his LOU didn't arrive on signing day. Groce had his point guard in Snider and he was yanked away at the last possible minute.

Good coaches and programs should never ""break" with the loss of a recruit (or two). We spent a good part of the last 5 years hoping for the next savior recruit. I didnt like that. I feel much better with a good system and player development rather than hail mary recruiting strategies (I considered Jalen Brunson a hail mary recruit, for example ). We will get recruits that want to be here and fit...and those recruits will be glad they came to UofI...and we will win.

Old Ward!! Classic!!

He's still around here right?

Also, Dayton always had great insight as well!

Edit: TC - GHD and HOC!! Both added so much to the board, although GHD's post count would get kind of excessive at times
I, for one, miss seeing posts from Second and Chalmers. He seemed to be more active on the football side and may have been a little doom and gloomy at times, but I thought he usually had fairly well thought out posts.

Oh, and Bert1991 as well. :D

I enjoyed hearing from all the "insider" guys even if the story they were sharing did not bare fruit. It makes reading these forums a lot of fun! Let's try not to run off anymore insiders even if they prove to be fake. My life is so much better when I have 3-4 pages to read rather than 5 posts.

Good post and good point. :thumb:

On Groce recruitment, he seemed to go for player rather that what fits. Of course that is what happens when you have no system. That's our biggest thing we have noticed from BU, system and culture change. He knows how he is going to do it, and an idea of how to get it done. This recruitment process will show how he makes it work, even if he doesn't get the players he likes the most, get one s that fit.:illinois:

Oh man. Orange Fever was one of the best. Always disappeared around Lent but then came back with a vengeance!

Meh, I got too tired of hearing how Lorenzo Romar was such a wonderful coach

Henricksen talks Illini recruiting with Tay and Jay from yesterday in case you missed it. Joe is always interesting. Comes on around the 20 minute mark.

I agree. They are a good listen for Illini and sports fan in general. They are " breaking up" soon, however.

Try again for August?

One thing Henricksen says is he doesn't think any of our Illinois guys will 'pop anytime soon'. The top 4 --Ayo, THT, Griffin and Conditt -- are still getting offers and Finke might want to wait until spring, although he says he hasn't talked to Tim or the family recently so he's not sure what they are planning to do.
And 'any time soon' is not real specific.

Thanks. Good listen. Doesn't sound like we'll see a commit soon.

I am surprised he is still interested in Butler even after Holtmann left.

Not sure I remember where I read it, but it would fit geographically if it were a driving tour and a UV, which I'm sure it was. It was last weekend. Might have just been a "driveby". :)

That was where I was thinking most the guys would wait and soak up some of the glory of the moment, and wait till signing date or till end of season. Hard to see all wait for that long but it could happen. Pure speculation and have no facts to go on.:D

No clue about THT's interest level in Butler, but dropping by to see Hinkle is a must for any hoops junkie.

You are correct!! THT was at XU on Thur and tOSU on Friday, so maybe a stop in Indy was on either side of those 2 days. Also, MSU just offered Aaron Henry of Indy Ben Davis (we've offered too). My guess is that MSU's offer to THT is a "wait 'n see" offer.

Wonder if he's mindlessly following the herd of if there's renewed confirmation that Underwood is in the driver's seat.
