Cincinnati 71, Illinois 51 Postgame

Offense can look putrid, but you’re gonna lose me when the team refuses to show heart, and once Cincinnati went up 11, no one on our team cared anymore. Just a complete 180 from the culture Brad preaches, and it’s not like he showed any heart tonight either. Just didn’t expect this group to lay down and die like that. The lack of offense is mind-boggling, but our defensive intensity and rebounding are dictated by whether or not we’re scoring, and all that defensive effort we brought in the first 10 minutes was gone immediately once we started missing shots. The Marquette game was a lot of the same offensive issues, but dang, at least they showed heart and fought for every ball on both ends of the floor. We quit tonight.

Insert obligatory hot take here.

Disappointed with the effort an execution. Probably going to face the Fighting Bruce's tomorrow night, that should be fun.

It is obvious to see where the players get their heart of the game from, Underwood had the open mouthed Weber look multiple times tonight. Once again, zero in game adjustments and completely embarrassing. Any defense of this coaching staff or team is absolutely unwarranted.

It's nights like this that I want to tell YouTube TV to stop recording all our games. But I won't. I must be a glutton for punishment. 😩

At one point the team minus Komi and Curbelo were 4 for 28 and the third leading scorer had 3 points

Wrong.

If he was kicking trash cans and berating players......the hot takes about him would be the same. Fair weather fans with nothing to say when we are whipping scUM and winning more B1G games than ever....then pile on like flies on poop.

So lame.

The comment i saw on the game thread that I think might be more accurate than most criticisms of curbelo is that the team has adopted his lackadaisical and carefree attitude. I see that. No fire when things start going bad. Immediately start whining and shaking their heads instead of righting the ship. Look like they are playing on the playground instead of having a system. It has to end now. This team is as talented as any we’ve had in a long long time and we look like garbage.

Underwood has to change the attitude of the team now…and I think installing an actual offense might be a good idea on top of that.
He busts his tail out there, and if there’s any criticism that actually makes sense it’s that he tries to do too much. But even if you accept the stupid narrative that he doesn’t care or doesn’t work hard enough, there were four seniors out there who should have known better. Those guys were complete vapor out there and packed it in when things got tough.

Those guys should be your leaders. I didn’t see Jack from them tonight. They should know better by now.

Ok, here goes calm, cool, and collective. Breath in, breath out, now post.

Brads teams have struggled mightily before. Last year, not so much, thank you #11/#12.

His teams always seem to get better. Bar set mistakingly high this year by Brad himself, fanbase, sportswriters, etc.

We now see tons of chemistry/knowing roles/etc. issues present. Tons of talent on this roster, the ball is literally in your court BU.

The good news is…..screw it. There is no good news.

I wasn’t too concerned about the Marquette game, but this was flat out embarrassing. How do you start out so sharp and then lay an egg for the next 30 minutes straight?
I also wrote Marquette off as in the rearview mirror … I don’t know if I can do the same with this. I mean, we looked like a Bubble team! Praying this sparks a fire with us, but I’m honestly terrified for tomorrow.

Take away Kofi's 7 buckets and the rest of the team made 9 buckets... where are the experienced shooters and senior leadership? We had an entire week to correct what happened last week.

Just very disappointed in the coaching, effort, and basketball IQ!

We scored 20 points in the 2nd half and didn't show any semblance of a coherent plan...our leaders in scoring Frazier, Cohawk, and Grandy were invisible tonight...was it their defense? When we can get them to compliment Kofi inside we will be much better...plus Kofi needs to be an assist leader...when he's getting swarmed by vines he needs to pass out...he will be paid more at the next level.
