This is what I am thinking happens then, assuming we beat MSU and Northwestern:

If we lose to Purdue (which then I would assume we also lose to Michigan): Reliaquist Bowl
If we beat Purdue but lose to Michigan and OSU: Citrus Bowl
If we beat Purdue and Michigan but lose to OSU: Orange Bowl
If we beat Purdue and beat OSU: Rose Bowl

Saying this as an observation but this last hypothetical would be worst case scenario for Big Ten.

And wuddaya think if we beat Purdue and split with Michigan? I suppose the order of the split would be a big factor. If we win a rematch, we're of course conference champs. (OSU over Michigan is not a certainty, despite the game being at OSU this year.)

Overrated Considerations:
- Bowl positioning
- Rankings
- Whether and how we could make the CFP

Underrated Considerations:
- Winning the West
- The chance to win the B1G
- The chance to win 11 games and be the winningest team in Illinois history
Wow, I'd take getting left out of the CFP, winning the big ten, and we'd be rolling man. A built
in chip on our shoulder and the passage to the best recruits in the country!!

We will have at least 2 losses unless we beat both Michigan and Ohio State (Champ Game).
But wouldn't Michigan? They would have lost to us and OSU. OSU is a clear Playoff team here, and it's us vs. Michigan for the Rose Bowl. Both of us lost to OSU, both have two losses (but we have 11 wins!) and we would have beat them head-to-head at their stadium quite recently.

I will agree with this, even having the CHANCE to win the Big Ten Championship Game - which obviously requires playing in it - should be our biggest goal here by FAR!

This is pretty good/accurate, I do believe. So many scenarios still out there, but this is a good start.

I think there are a few paths to a Rose Bowl assuming no bad loss for Michigan or OSU:
-Finish with 2 or more losses in regular season but win B10 Championship game
-Finish with 1 loss in regular season (win out), lose to OSU in B10 Championship game (I think there are very good odds we would finish ranked above Michigan due to beating them in Ann Arbor)
-Win out including @Michigan and vMichigan or vOSU and have the misfortune of TCU and Clemson going undefeated along with at least 2 other one loss SEC teams or Pac10 teams (i.e. no B10 team makes the CFP). This would make for the greatest Illini football season in my lifetime and yet would also be the most heartbreaking (even more than Fumblegate against Michigan and losing in OT to #2 OSU in 2002)

That said, I agree in enjoying this season and each game for what it is. It has been beyond amazing and no matter what happens this will be a season I always look back on fondly (That said, winning in Ann Arbor is something that'll bring me a lifetime of joy, so please make it happen, guys)

Lol the committee not even trying to hide giving ESPN a little treat with a top 10 matchup this weekend, after which they'll stick LSU back down where they belong.

This kind of process does allow them to do the right thing and put Tennessee #1 however, unlike the AP poll where it's impossible to dislodge the top few teams if they don't lose.

Rankings will take care of themselves if we win. I like where we are ranked let the media disrespect us and let us take care of our business. Honestly if we were 8-0 we would be ranked about the same until people realized we have dominated decent teams. I think Wisky Minn and Iowa are better than what people think

LSU Utah and PSU are over rated. KSU will get to prove which team they actually are

Strength of schedule matters. Everyone should be thrilled with where Illinois football is but realize...they haven't really beaten anyone. Not being negative, Illinois Football is in a great place, we should all be thrilled.
Explain PSU sos getting blown out by scUM and losing to O$U should not help them. Who else have they beat. Purdue is their best win which is comparable to our Wisky or Iowa win. We both beat Minny

The AP poll had it #1 Georgia vs #2 Tennessee at 2:30 on CBS, and #6 Alabama vs #15 LSU at 6:00 on ESPN

Now it's #1 Tennessee vs #3 Georgia at 2:30 on CBS and #6 Alabama vs #10 LSU at 6:00 on ESPN.

A historic clash with a fun dessert on the side becomes a powerhouse doubleheader with the network that pays the bills of the majority of the committee getting the prime time nightcap.

This is what this process is. Ignore it until the final rankings.

Illinois at 16 would make more sense if Clemson was at 10. If strength of schedule truly mattered, that is.

It's the first ranking, which is ultimately meaningless, but this was definitely a case of bigger names and history making a bigger difference, except for some reason at the very top.

Exactly this, rankings and bowls aren't important right now. Let's all look forward to our shot at the B10 title, which for me at least would trump any bowl win short of the playoff.
