I don't see much of any issue with us being 16. Heck, I'm happy at this point they remembered to put us into the ranking, lol. Honestly though, if we were to win against MSU and Purdue, my guess is they'll move us into the Top 10 for that huge matchup with Michigan. Win that one and we're talking a possible move into the Top 5 or 6 depending on what happens with the other teams ahead of us. We win out and we've got a shot, simple as that.

As I said before, I think TCU is the one who really has a reason to be irked right now. They're #7 despite a terrific SOS and wins along with being undefeated. They should definitely be in the top 4 in my opinion as their resume trumps everyone but Tennessee and it should be worrisome that they might get shafted from a CFP appearance by a far less deserving Clemson or 1 loss Bama or Georgia

Illinois at 16 would make more sense if Clemson was at 10. If strength of schedule truly mattered, that is.

It's the first ranking, which is ultimately meaningless, but this was definitely a case of bigger names and history making a bigger difference, except for some reason at the very top.

Michigan is 30th and Clemson is 36th in SOS.

If you would have told me after that 63-0 Iowa game that in 4 years we’d be slightly disappointed about our playoff rankings my response would have been - “so, we wised up and dropped down to NAIA. About time we accepted our place in college athletics!”

The AP poll had it #1 Georgia vs #2 Tennessee at 2:30 on CBS, and #6 Alabama vs #15 LSU at 6:00 on ESPN

Now it's #1 Tennessee vs #3 Georgia at 2:30 on CBS and #6 Alabama vs #10 LSU at 6:00 on ESPN.

A historic clash with a fun dessert on the side becomes a powerhouse doubleheader with the network that pays the bills of the majority of the committee getting the prime time nightcap.

This is what this process is. Ignore it until the final rankings.
Weirdly, it bothers me that you are ordering the teams based on ranking rather than putting the home team second regardless of ranking.

These initial rankings don't matter much, especially to a team like Illinois with the schedule it still has ahead of it. I am hopeful that they continue to just take things one game at a time, with the possible exception of starting to work in some practice now for whatever adjustments the staff feel might be needed against the improved competition yet to come. I trust our coaches, especially Coach Bielema, to maintain a steady ship through this whirlwind month ahead (and beyond). Right now, the attitude should be "take care of our own business and let the rest play out how it will."

Personally, I am approaching all of this with the view that it is very unlikely we see Illinois in the CFP this year. That's still a big step up from where I would have placed those odds at the beginning of the season ("next to impossible"). We have a special team, having a special season. Having this much still to play for, at the start of November, is just too much fun (and hopefully it can lead to more success in the future).

Soak it up and enjoy the ride, Illini faithful! As for me, I'm just counting the minutes until kickoff at a packed Memorial Stadium this weekend. I mean...how awesome is that?!
