He’s got a list ready at all times for all position coaches.IIRC, Coach B stated that he has 3 names that could replace Walters.
This would surprise me. Purdue's identity is their offense (cradle of quarterbacks and all) and I don't believe they've had a defensive head coach since Leon Burtnett in the 80s.2022 Purdue Football Coaching Search - Ryan Walters — Boiled Sports
Illinois’ 36 year old rising star coordinator is bound to get head coaching interest soon.www.boiledsports.com
OOOO MYYYYY
I would be so very shocked for them to take a chance on a young , up & coming DC from within the conference. This would surprise me. Purdue's identity is their offense (cradle of quarterbacks and all) and I don't believe they've had a defensive head coach since Leon Burtnett in the 80s.
Walters has interviewed at Purdue
Im not at all surprised about that , but I will still be surprised if they hire him.He interviewed very well from what I heard … Purdue people extremely impressed.
I'm not surprised. Ugh, I would hate to see him go to Purdue. He interviewed very well from what I heard … Purdue people extremely impressed.
With great candidates who are excellent fits I would expect (no inside info)He’s got a list ready at all times for all position coaches.
Me too. I fear he will be successfull wherever he goes, so I'm hoping his first HC position is not in the B1G.I'm not surprised. Ugh, I would hate to see him go to Purdue.
It doesn’t seem like the best fit for him. Especially with their NIL stance up to this point. Really puts a new staff behind the 8 ball.I will be surprised if Walters is the next Purdue coach. For a Big Ten program that just won the West and went to the Big Title game to take a chance on him would be rather out there.
Walters is doing a great job as a DC but has zero HC experience and importantly is very young - lacking the connections to build a great staff. I’d say it’s a third or fourth option for them.
Walters is gonna get the Purdue job, ensure he loses to BB every year, and makes sure he does his best to beat teams so Illinois wins the west. (Or whatever divisions look like in the future)
Once Purdue figures out he’s a double agent and fires him, he comes back home and is the DC for our Natty team.
BB and Walters playing 4-D chess right now.
Met him my senior year (1974) in Shoemachers (buying an interview suit). Introduced myself and said I was a lifelong Illini fan. He engaged me conversation for 3-4 minutes. Wished me luck. Very gracious. A real gentleman.Interesting "ties" to Illini football you have! I was a huge fan of Blackman in grade school. Loved his Sunday morning TV Show recapping the prior day's game. (I got most of the live games on radio only, so it was always nice to see video highlights the day after.)
In fact, Blackman was one of the huge reasons I attended Illinois. He had a great TV persona........sorta like Santa Claus' first born son.
Wouldn't surprise me if Bielema gave an interview recommendation to Purdue. Not because he wants to lose him. Rather, as a way to support his assistants as they wind their way up the coaching food chain. Understands that Walters is not likely to get the job but understands that good interviewing takes practice. Will only help him in the future. Bielema seems like that kind of guy.Walters has interviewed at Purdue
AIthough I do expect Purdue to hire an offensive-minded coach............
In the event it does happen in West Lafayette, Jim Leonhard might just be next in line for the orange and blue. (And I wonder which Assistant Coaches Walters may try to take with him?)
