That would be some multidimensional karmic feedback for everyone involved when he turns Texas into a shitshow too. It's way past that ... The way this thing is trending, I would be surprised if Cal isn't at Texas next year ...

Holtmann seems like a quality coach, so that'd be fine by me.Neither of them would even answer the phone lol …
If Holtmann gets canned, he’s a real possibility … Pat Kelsey another name …
Well, if anyone is getting pink slipped in blue grass country, they’ll probably be taking it on the chin.
Rodney Terry definitely has a resume that can qualifies him for that spot. Cal’s is just better. At 19-4, #5 ranking, and a 1 seed in Bracketology, Texas has to be thinking right now that interim head coach Rodney Terry may be their head coach of the future. Would you really prefer Calipari over him if you had to decide today?
Georgetown has struggled big time the last two years and Patrick Ewing is likely on the hot seat at the university where he became a national star. If it's Ewing's last season in DC, Georgetown should be looking at Pat Kelsey as his replacement. Kelsey, 47, has had great success first at Winthrop and now at College of Charleston. I imagine Kelsey could be lured... before his hometown team, alma mater, and previous employer--Xavier--sees Sean Miller move on and brings him home.
Cal's resume is better because it's longer. But he's really not put it together with the talent and in the new NIL era, Cal's "recruiting ability" isn't all that important.Rodney Terry definitely has a resume that can qualifies him for that spot. Cal’s is just better.
For me, I’m just excited to sit back and watch Texas mess it up.
At this point, Cal really looks like a glorified version of Cuonzo Martin.Cal's resume is better because it's longer. But he's really not put it together with the talent and in the new NIL era, Cal's "recruiting ability" isn't all that important.
I'm really not sure at this point what the attraction is.

That didn't happen just by chance.....Oats just signed a lengthy extension with a sizeable buyout very recently. I'd have to assume that Musselman is probably Texas's first choice.
I wish they'd hire Gates away from Miznoz, but I don't think he's proven himself enough yet.
If think Calipari is arguably the most overrated coach of all time. We all know he has cheated almost his entire career, but even while routinely having teams with the most talent in the nation, certainly top 5, he only has 6 Final Fours. 2 of those had to be vacated, because of the cheating, and we all know many of the other 4 were also a result of cheating.
To me what's even worse is in 13 seasons at Kentucky, with that talent advantage, he only has 6 regular season SEC championships. The SEC isn't exactly a basketball powerhouse. Compare that to Bill Self who has won the Big 12 16 of 19 seasons.
Now with NIL taking away some of his opportunity to cheat, I don't think he will be able to land quite as much talent as he has in the past. That said, he has built a reputation as being a great coach and that carries weight with recruits, but would leaving Kentucky after a subpar season tarnish that reputation. Does Texas carry the same interest to recruits as Kentucky (recruits that don't live in Texas)? He's not a tactician, so he's going to need that talent.
If I were Texas, I would be looking at Oats, Hurley, Musselman, Lloyd, Miller, Cooley, etc. I wouldn't want to pay the money it would take to get Calipari or deal with has lack of actual coaching chops.
To follow up, I love the way Chest Frazier recruits. He brings in guys who can perform from day one (everyday guys) but will likely stay for 2-3 years. (With the way portal works, I don't assume anybody staying at one place for 4 yrs anymore.) Now I see how hard to play 8 new guys together, I really appreciate continuity.Wow, didn’t realize Cal had only won the SEC 6 times. That’s quite an indictment. The SEC has gotten a lot stronger with basketball the last 3-4 years with Alabama,
Tennessee, Arkansas and Auburn getting some big time recruits. But for most of Cal’s tenure it’s been UK and then everybody else talent wise.
I also think Cal’s model (and Duke’s) of stacking one n dones year over year is outdated. Absent transcendent talents like Zions, ADS etc it doesn’t work. And now with G League Ignite, OTE, etc kids like that have options beyond college and yes, NIL has leveled the playing field so those kids are much more spread out than they were when the rules were, shall we say, unevenly enforced.
I think now it’s a magic elixir of developing core, program guys to the extent you can keep them around for 3-4 years and augmenting with transfers and/or 5 stars to fill in whatever roster holes you have. Thankfully it seems like BU is ahead of the field or at least even with the innovators on how to construct a roster in this era. Whether he finds the magic elixir this year or subsequent years is TBD.
A very long winded way of saying I wouldn’t hire Cal if I were Texas. Ha.
I would. It would save a lot of headaches for other fan bases.Wow, didn’t realize Cal had only won the SEC 6 times. That’s quite an indictment. The SEC has gotten a lot stronger with basketball the last 3-4 years with Alabama,

going back aways, and gene bartow wasn't at that level, but what was he thinking taking the UCLA job? He had to know that anything less than championships, or in the hunt every year at a minimum, was required to keep that job.Upper echelon coaches always believe they will deliver.
What was Scheyer thinking???.....trying to follow the likes of coach K ....it will probably take some time and patience by the administration and fan base ...or JS will soon be availablegoing back aways, and gene bartow wasn't at that level, but what was he thinking taking the UCLA job? As it turns out, he only made it two years there. One of those years he made it to the FF, the other he won the Pac 10 and went to the Sweet 16, so not too shabby all things considered.going back aways, and gene bartow wasn't at that level, but what was he thinking taking the UCLA job? that's what I'm saying. Sweet 16 and FF in first two years would get you a lucrative extension most places. And UCLA has a series of two year coaches after Wooden. As it turns out, he only made it two years there. What was Duke thinking? The K coaching tree has sucked. Did they think that Scheyer would be any different just because he was never given the chance to fail at another school? What was Scheyer thinking???.....trying to follow the likes of coach K ....it will probably take some time and patience by the administration and fan base ...or JS will soon be available
He may have been thinking, "when am I going to get another opportunity to make 7 million dollars a year?"What was Scheyer thinking???.....trying to follow the likes of coach K ....it will probably take some time and patience by the administration and fan base ...or JS will soon be available
On one hand it’s like Dirty Harry says:Upper echelon coaches always believe they will deliver.
I imagine they were thinkin: well, it’s what Mike wants. And, ya know:..he’ll be the de facto coach anyway. Besides, we mustn’t question basketball Jesus. He built this thing; after all. We’d better let him put his golden boy in there; like he wants. What was Duke thinking? The K coaching tree has sucked. Here's hoping for a string of 6 seeds that keep him hanging on for 6 or 7 years.

Very true that his coaching tree is lame. (Very Lame) But it would take some pretty big stones for them to go against the wishes of the Great Kryzewski.
K thought he’d be able to pull the strings with Scheyer. And like you said…the coaching tree is a joke. They either have already lost/failed too much for Duke. OR
they(Collins, Amaker) have too many of their own ideas for Coach K’s liking…and that last one is really what it comes down to.
I know it’s Duke and their expectations are insane but to tell ya the truth I thought would be a lot worse. For a first year…it doesn’t look to bad…at least so far. View attachment 23403
