Former Texas men's basketball coach Chris Beard's domestic violence charge dropped.​


A week after Beard’s suspension, the woman’s account of events changed via a statement released through her attorney. She apologized for the situation and said she initiated a physical confrontation with Beard, whom she said acted in self-defense. She also said she told law enforcement that he did not strangle her that night.

If she lied initially and he really is innocent, she should spend time in jail for this. You can't just ruin someone's life and not face repercussions.

NW will lose a lot after this season. Collins might look to jump to a school like ND. ND has plenty of money and will look to grab a hot coach from a Power 5 school.

She's claiming that she told the police at the time that he didn't choke her. It's highly unlikely that an Austin police officer made up that she was choked for 5 seconds and couldn't breathe during that time.

It's significantly more likely that it happened, it was a mutual physical altercation, they have since made up and the victim doesn't want negative repercussions against her fiancé. The DA cited the witnesses unwillingness to testify as part of this.

None of us were there, but this is an extremely common pattern in domestic violence issues. I don't blame UT for not wanting it associated with their brand and moving on.

imo, he would be a fool to go to ND. Hockey is more important there than basketball.

You really think that Collins jumps ship knowing full well that he'd have a large rebuild at Notre Dame to take on? Chicagoland is Collins' home. As long as Northwestern pays him, I don't see him leaving. He's building a legacy at Northwestern. I think that means more to him(he could've easily left after the 1st tourney appearance).

At some point, the grass isn't always greener. I think Porter Moser is learning that exact thing right now. I think the jump into the Big 12 was a bit much for him(recruiting wise)

I'd also think the ACC is more attractive to coach in than the Big 12. And it's gotta be hard to recruit to OK.

Porter was an average coach in

3 years at Arkansas Little Rock avg record 18-11
4 years at Illinois State 13-17
First 6 years at Loyola 15-18

He had a great 4 years with Cameron Krutwig (he still give me nightmares) that included a final 4 and sweet 16.

He has done nothing at Oklahoma his first 2 years - 19-16, 12-11 this year. He did not inherit at train wreck from Lon Kruger.

If I was ND I would look elsewhere

Krutwig was the 5th leading scorer on Loyola's final four team. Moser brought in the leading the top 4 leading scorers as well. Transfers from Iowa State and Fairleigh-Dickinson and two straight out of HS (including one kid from Simeon).

The Oklahoma team he inherited lost their top 3 scorers (averaged a combined 42.0 ppg and the only 3 players to average in double digits) from Kruger's last year. (5 of their top 7 scorers total).

I'm not saying ND should jump on Moser but what you said wasn't totally accurate.

While previous posts seem to have a lot of smoke coming from the Moser to ND camp, I would strongly consider Notre Dame if I were Collins. The ACC is going to be a weaker conference going forward, especially with USC and UCLA coming into the Big Ten.
Plus the recruiting area is similar in South Bend and he is used to the high academic standards. Northwestern has been so strong this year because he was able to keep longtime program mainstays like Beran, Audige and Boo from leaving, but they signed up to play for him before NIL. We've already seen Nance lured away, thankfully for them it hasn't seemed to hurt much.

But it's just going to get harder than ever to keep up talentwise with the transfer portal and lack of NIL dollars at Northwestern.

Notre Dame likely does not allocate much NIL money towards basketball, but it's still a bigger and more rabid fanbase in terms of athletics, which is helpful.

No idea what he's thinking, but if I was him I'd look at what happened after that first tourney appearance and realize how tough it is to succeed year in and year out at NW. He ought to jump at the next good opportunity.

Notre Dame is not any easier of a job than Northwestern. Notre Dame isn't a basketball school and his vision helped renovate their arena. You think he's going to be able to outrecruit Duke, UNC, Miami(with their NIL money)? You think he can outcoach Tony Bennett? He's got a better chance of thriving in the B10 than in the ACC. What is so wrong with building a program for the long haul? Randy Bennett has done it at St. Marys, Mark Few at Gonzaga, Mike Brey at Notre Dame, Ed Cooley at Providence. None of these are the sexiest jobs in America but some coaches like to build a legacy rather than skipping town anytime the next best opportunity comes along

Yes, Notre Dame is easier. For a bunch of reasons.

If he wants to try build Northwestern for the long haul and create some sort of legacy, fine. More power to him. His chance of having success at most other P5 schools will be greater than at NW.

For Moser ... He knows he's going to get fired at Oklahoma the way things are going ... Rather start fresh at ND and play in a mid league like the ACC where it ain't to hard to have a winning season every year ...

Same reason Mike White jumped to Georgia from Florida last year ... And why you might see Holtmann make a jump as well for the right opportunity ...

Cal still can bring in better talent than anyone. And UK can still pay those players more than any other program. He needs to fire Chin, bring in a GREAT Xs & Os guy, and let that guy do some teaching.

Well looking at his bio he grew up in Indianapolis, went to college in Indiana, his first coaching job was in Indiana, his second coaching job was in Indiana, his 3rd coaching job was in Indiana, his 4th coaching job was in Indiana, his 5th coaching job was in Indiana, then he spent 6 years with the Celtics before, you guessed it, going back to Indiana.

So it looks like over his 46 years of life, he has spent 35 of them in Indiana. Both schools are not easy sells for basketball, but I'd feel more comfortable with coaching at ND than PSU, especially if I was an Indiana guy through and through.
