What were all the booms for the other day? Lol
This. Either we are getting fooled, or BU and the staff is getting fooled. I have no problem believing it’s not the former, as I believe in the integrity of our insiders. But man what does it say about the latter…

If last couple seasons taught me anything, it’s that making preseason predictions based on a summer roster is getting tougher and tougher these days. So I don’t think anyone should be ready to say “we’re not a tournament team unless we get _____”

Many thought we would be top 2 in the B1G last year, we landed 7 and a quick tourney bounce. K-state was picked last in their conference by a lot, they made it farther than Any Big 12 team.

Would having RayJ, TSJ or Coleman help? Of course. I think the floor is safely higher with them. But it’s impossible to predict where the ceiling is til we start seeing play in November.

It would say a lot about the latter only if there is no strong backup plan. Fool me once...

I think of Dain as a sophomore because last year was his first full season. He only played in 3 games at Baylor so I assumed he could get a red shirt.
This is Dain’s 4th season so he’s technically a Senior this year, and a redshirt senior next year. He’s in the same class as Coleman. He could potentially file a hardship waiver for 2021 season at Baylor in which he only played 3 games, but who knows how that would turn out.

So, As a 71 yo, 54 year Illini fanatic (on IL since the end of the Bruce Weber era), I read IL for the 5 hour drive upnorth to our WI cabin (for the first time since October), and I tried to stay calm and keep thinking that all of this recruiting drama is a minor in the big scheme of life (tribute to Pru). My conclusions: We Illini Loyalists must always remember: to be grateful to our insiders for providing the info they know ‘at the moment’ because “recruiting is fluid,” NIL and other factors are causing many, many changes to a system that we are just learning to understand, and no matter what happens, we need to be resilient to be able to stay Illini fans (as we always have). Other priorities can exist in the universe, but our constant is our love for our Illini (I don’t know why my husband didn’t use my Illini Tervis for my adult beverage). #IlliniForLife 🧡💙
Recruiting is entertainment for me.......A smile on my face and a lighthearted approach to life with a great appreciation for all positive things in my life is my mantra now..............I can't do anything to control what happens in recruiting so why get all bent out of shape when it doesn't pan out right for us.......Just get the next one..............

I'm gonna enjoy everyday that I have left on this planet and try to bring as much happiness to my NL's as they bring to me.............

I'm doing something right........At least that's what the NL's tell me.....they really really do.............

It’s a bit of a head scratcher IMO why Dennis wouldn’t choose Illinois. interested in hearing what he has to say when he does choose if not Illinois. Illinois has the NIL, all the minutes he can handle at point. Tournament team. Close to home. Outside looking in Illini have everything you think one would want.
Maybe he wants to be further away from home. Utah is very nice. Skiing. The LDS morality rules issue wouldn’t really matter at Utah; thats BYU’s thing.

He wouldn’t be the first midwesterner that got a look at Western mountains and got seduced into wanting out. Happens to the best of us sometimes.

To clarify, I agree expectations should be to make the tournament every year. However, lack of deep runs in the tournament while extremely disappointing, should be given less weight than regular season performance IMO.
Those are 2 entirely different discussions. Making the tournament is fairly binary in it's good vs bad dichotomy is what I'm saying
