Twitter is lighting up the insiders. LOL My view is that it was all good information but even if it was BU himself on here nothing can be guaranteed until they sign. We knew all about Dennis long before he was in the portal and I've never even heard of him before. That was strictly because of the insiders here.

But will he be the starting point guard in Utah? What are they going to do with the 5'11" guy they just brought in? He's not playing SG. Or their returning PG starter? Not saying Dennis wouldn't be their best one, but there is certainly not unlimited minutes at the PG spot there
With his leg being a red flag on paper, he probably needs to show more promise from beyond the arc. I don’t like it but I kinda get it if he’s really thinking about the best path to the NBA. It’s frustrating that the staff’s vision and sell couldn’t trump the outside noise though.

Insiders need to have thick skin I guess.

I'm in the camp who come here for the rumors, inside info good and bad, all the good stuff Indy, Lville, etc provide -- all the while hoping it works out for Illinois -- but if it doesn't, the last thing I would think of doing is posting something like this. Geez. Sorry you guys have to deal with this. Keep all the info coming, the vast majority of Illini fans really appreciate it.
I'm just here for the cottage cheese recipes

Exposure and higher level of competition throughout the season to start. If he stayed at Toledo, it would have been the same exact measuring stick even if he produced a little more.

Also, my gut tells me he’ll be getting more $ at Utah than Toledo. Just a hunch.

Go Illini

So likely worse stats against higher competition and worse results going to the #7 pac-12 team. And he gets to share PG duties with their returning starter and a new guy they just brought in to run the point. So less assists for sure. None of that seems to help his cause. I'm sure he would be getting more money than Toledo...but obviously that doesn't really matter to him too much to him or he wouldn't be going to Utah. And you're telling me the only place the guy can go if he wants to have the ball in his hands at the end of games is Utah?? If so I don't think he should worry about what NBA scouts have to say. It is a really weird choice.

That's a whole different take if you're saying that NBA feedback steered him away from coming here. Losing a kid...happens. Life goes on. If you're saying that NBA execs have a negative connection between us and successfully being drafted, it's worth a whole different discussion. Any way to clarify?
I had the same thought.

Maybe that’s the point. Feedback could have included they want to see him playing off the ball. That is much more likely to happen on a team with 2 other PG options than at Illinois.

To RayJ: You know, if you really are that good, and that confident, you could come here and take the closer-job by being that good. But fine, go out and play where no one will see you. Good luck. P.S. as a "J" name guy, I don't like the name RayJ.

To Staff: Do work and get a good replacement. Get Shannon and Hawkins back. Fight like hell on the recruiting trail.

To BU: Dude, you got to step things up. I get that not every "blue chip" recruit or transfer is right for this program, but we have to start closing and winning competitive recruitments. We aren't going to take the next step as a program with falling back on relative and hopeful diamonds in the rough.

To the insiders: You guys are great. I really appreciate your insight. I don't fault you. I'd just ask that you refrain from giving the impression that things look to be "locked up" when there is still plenty of time left on the board. The staff may have felt confident, but clearly their judgment was off / there were blind spots. I'm sure it's out of line for me to tell you what to leak. But It just feels like anything other than "I'm going to commit to Illinois and I am going to do it today/tomorrow/the next day" is just not solid enough in this day and age to be a lock emoji. I'm sorry, I love you, forgive me, but that's my 2/100th of a cent.

To the fans: Its fair for us to be mad. But be mad at the right people; not the folks who are doing us favors.

Best of luck to him out in Utah if that is indeed where he is headed. I have faith that our coaches will reel one in that will elevate us to another level this year. Still confident that we will reel in some booms.

I know this is why Brad and these guys get paid the big bucks but if we’re mad, I can just only imagine having your career tied to the decision of 18-21 year olds getting pulled in random directions. It’d be like saying part of my corp bonus is tied to the intern picking my offer over 5 others.

The Utes just recently got Deivon Smith from GT which made me surprised about this Utah decision. Smith is definitely not someone you refuse to recruit over, especially given his shooting numbers at the collegiate level, but was a top 60ish prospect in high-school, is a superb athlete, and can really only play point because of his size... who knows anymore
They also return starting point guard Rollie Worster and back up Mike Saunders.

You could take this one of two ways.....

1. The feedback was that he wouldn't develop as well at Illinois, so best to look elsewhere. Very concerning if this is the case
2. His draft position is better if he is "the man" and not the second or third option. In which case giving up $250k in NIL this year is chump change.

Not sure I buy the second scenario - it's not like other schools haven't had multiple kids drafted in a particular year, so there would not seem to be any real need for RayJ to have to show he is the man. My nagging suspicion is he didn't really want to go to Illinois to begin with

If RayJ ends up avg 20+ ppg and improves while going up to Pac-12 play from the MAC, NBA scouts are obviously going to take notice... despite playing at 11pm.
Because they are looking for 6-1 shooting guards?

These threads never fail to entertain me, I love the passion, but let's all enjoy the ride. I have a funny feeling things will work out in the end.

Embrace the fluidity and uncertainty of the offseason!!

People on here need to really stop thinking they deserve info and that stuff can’t change with any situation. None of us deserve or are entitled to anything. Stuffs going to change. Move on with life and find another hobby that won’t make you so mad.

In a month we will have a point guard and half the people on here will be saying he’s better than Ray J and we are lucky we didn’t get him.
