Is this sarcasm?
I was wondering the same thing. Yes we do need a pg, but to say Brad wont recover from this, is a ridiculous comment. People are giving up on the season already based off not getting a mid major transfer. You aren’t going to get everyone it doesn’t matter who you are or what program you are. Ray J was a great PG at the mid major level, it doesn’t necessarily mean that will transfer to the high major level. We will see I guess. All that matters is that you win regardless of who you get.

I think this is a fair talking point.
No, it is like criticizing a player for not batting 1.000 in the World Series. You have to make choices. Not all turn out. The distinction to be drawn is on how you adapt. John Groce was often without an actionable backup plan when he was left at the alter. BU seems to have been able to reasonably overcome the disappointments so far. He swung for the fences with RayJ. Will be watching to see how he adapts.

I understand this POV but I think TSJ is a better player off the ball due to his lack of ball handling creativity and shooting off the dribble. I think Cohawk would also benifit from not having the ball all the time. The pick and pop game with Cohawk could be great.

Our recruits really havent worked out at that position lately and now we are having to go for transfer to gain experience.
this is exactly why we need a pass first point guard and move away from pick/pop and roll sets. we have a bunch of
players, old and new who can come off screens and catch, slash and shoot. that sets us up for a variety of sets.

Was RayJ getting less? I honestly don't have any idea how this all works. If we had good money for RayJ, wouldn't we have just as much to try and "reload" from this miss?

I think its previously been insinuated that the money might be there for a specific player (RayJ in this case) but not necessarily for another / different player.

Yesterday most of you acted as though you had no confidence in both CH and TSJ coming back. i posted three times that they were, that coleman droped from draft. and that RayJ would announce before friday that he was coming to Illinois. I'm not going to state was is not fact.
Hold on, hold on guys. RayJ is coming to Illinois. It’s a fact. Oh wait, maybe he just meant coming to the state of Illinois to visit family. Never mind.

Last year we were one of the youngest and most inexperienced teams in the country, this year we will be old and experienced. Find a solid pg to get people the ball in the right spots and lets let our future pros show why we wanted them back so badly
Exactly. We don't need someone to carry us - any team in the conference would take TSJ as that guy in an INSTANT, and most would take Coleman! - we need a serviceable PG who won't turn the ball over and let the other guys thrive. Don't get me wrong, really wish we had RayJ ... but it's not as comparable to last year's total question mark.

He was getting less than that. It all just depends on how bad a team wants a kid. Team x wants pullin really bad so they offer him say 400k even though they know that over the theoretical market value. Also mows not the time for Brad to be asking for more money lol

Interesting. It was said Utah's offer was 300k less than the Illinois offer. Some numbers aren't matching up here.

PS, I'm upset with nobody here. Just trying to make sense of all of this.

Has he been cutoff for good, or just temporarily until he gets his tongue lashings and public (loyalty) beatings?

Seems to me like this is exactly the time for Brad to be asking for more money.

I guess that makes sense. If I were a wealthy donor though, I wouldn't want to watch another pg-less team in 23-24. If I had billions, I'd give 500k easily. Maybe that's why I'm not a billionaire though.

I've felt for a while that the portal could be BU's undoing. I'm just not sold on the way he's gone about roster construction the last year - placing so much more value on getting old and staying old via the portal versus building a roster that can sustain success for the long term. Your margin for error is just so thin when you go all in on the portal.

Difficult to figure margin of error. Did not figure Sky Clark would not peform to expections. Epps got massive playing time and still left.
With the NIL money much more difficult to bring in 3 or 4 strong players in the same year and expect them to be around 4 years - a lot of uncertainy it seems to me.

I'm not trying to single you out but I don't understand this mindset. What did he do wrong? He went to the end of the evaluation process and listened to what the scouts had to say. Listened to all the coaches that were recruiting him, and then make a decision on what he felt was best for him. He never committed to us. We didn't have to keep recruiting him. Since he chooses someone else than us it leaves a bad taste in several of your mouths. Don't understand that at all.
What we did wrong was let him hold us hostage. Put us in a spot where other PG's
were going elsewhere. its simple, "we like you a lot but we need you to commit now.
We can maybe up the NIL, but need a go, no go, now". Then its thanks for the interest,
we hope you have success wherever you end up and move on.

A commitment coming soon probably within the next hour…really tough PG with size that can play…but coming off an injury..I heard he committed earlier this week
So a point guard committed to Illinois earlier this week while the Illini were still waiting for RayJ to make his decision? That make's absolutely zero sense.

Please tell me this is not our answer.
