Illinois may have been recruiting Williams but never announced his commitment. I am sure they were aware of injury and eligibility issues. The staff contacts hundreds of players to gauge interest, start the recruiting process. Getting a commitable scholarship offer is a completely different situation. JMO - Williams thought once RayJ committed to Baylor that our "soft" offer had become commitable.

Do we wish we had a Derek Harper / Bruce Douglas / Kiwane Garris / Frank Williams / Deron Williams / Trent Frazier level PG on the roster - heck yes. However we have won plenty of games when we did not. Trust in Brad and his staff.

Heck...I wouldn't turn down a Derek Harper, Frank or Deron Williams even if we didn't need a point guard....just saying....

Brad said I need money for RayJ … They said okay here’s the coins you asked for, now go get RayJ … And Brad missed … Now they’re all ticked … Lol … If someone took your money and promised to deliver something and didn’t … Would you give them money again and if so would you give as much ?

Like the other poster said, the money isn't gone though. Either Brad gave it back or it's still available for other players, right?

We aren’t just gonna pay anyone … Brad is stubborn and only wants to go after select PGs … Boosters are already p’d …

It’s just not a good combination … I’d expect no more additions to the roster unless there are some guys who come back from their teams summer tours unhappy with their role and decide to graduate and transfer … Because that will happen … Can we get them ? Idk - depends who it is …

So are you saying donors actually gave $$$ (to the bkball program) before RayJ committed??? or did they just pledge those $$$ to the program so they could pursue him????

Well, not quite sure. But I will say if I thought I had a deal for a new car and then it somehow got sold out from under me, I'd still have the same dollars for a new car and I'd still have the need, so yeah, I'd give the dealer money for the next one.

But the overall point I think you're making is that BU is over promising right now and under delivering. I'm not sure why he feels like he's got to do that. Is he taking his lead from Biden and Trump?

Lest we forget that whole Toledo War thing.
True…and I agree with you.

But you could say that about other border-state rivalries, too. How about that whole Civil War thing? Missouri vs Illinois

It literally says something about the bad blood between border states; that they fought actual wars. The historical backdrop DOES say something. But that was over 150 years ago. I dunno. Aren’t we getting a little tedious?

Don't know the innerworkings of what was promised by BU, however, boosters giving money can't be that sensitive. These are kids chaining the $$$ . . .and noting is guaranteed until the "ink is dry". Maybe Brad but too many eggs in one basket or took a kid by his worked, but from what I see, he's been pretty successful so far pulling in talent from the portal and selling the program and NIL. Coaches and programs are always going to get burned during each cycle.

In my experience, people giving money can be just about whatever they want

You are an insider please tell Brad what did wrong to not get Dennis.

Question for any insiders: is there a sense that the open scholarship will be filled with a player eligible to play this year? Or is it now looking more like it will be left open?

Summer class periods should have some wrapping up in July with all of them being done early August. 102 players pulled out of the draft plus a ton of other guys could graduate in a summer session and enter the portal as a grad transfer.

Is it possible that someone like Trey Woodbury could end up getting a waiver approved?

You’d probably wind up at another dealership though … Which is exactly how some of these boosters are talking …

For example from a very generous booster to me:

“I’m tired of doing business with people who I think are way to stubborn, cocky, and continuously don’t deliver on what’s promised AND then they make me pay for a kid to go sit at home half the year??? Pay these kids to go get drunk and not show up against Penn freaking State at home!!!! I don’t continue to want to donate. It was great when we had Ayo, Trent, Damonte, Feliz, Kofi and others but last year I couldn’t stand watching that team and I have a feeling this year isn’t going to be any better especially after everyone gave that money for the Toledo kid Brad couldn’t stop talking about and then he’s making excuses for losing him. And that’s where I’m at with Underwood. He’s got a lot of relationships that need repaired and he hasn’t made an effort. I’ll be putting my money towards football until then.”

From what I’ve gathered … The roster is done unless someone new comes in the portal that would fit our needs and unless something happens with PT or NIL after a summer tour and the kid can graduate … I’d bet we’re done …
