Think their D is gonna have difficulty stopping us. I we have ball security, we'll win. Kansas will move the ball, but am assuming our D is gonna impede them more than their D impeding us.

In positive news, if we went with the all white approach vs. Kansas' all-black, there are statistical studies out there that suggest a natural tendency by refs to bias penalties against the team wearing the all-black jerseys in a black vs white jersey matchup. I'd take all the help we can get in this one.

Key will be using misdirection early to spread them out, open up the running lanes to gash them, and using playaction and slants to light them up. Methodical drives down the field ending in touchdowns. If we can do that, eventually our defense will get some stops. We need to do our part though on defense to stop the run and get some pressure on an ailing qb. Hard to throw accurate passes when you're under pressure and have a tight back. Just find a way to get it done.

Game 1 is about working out the kinks. I fully expect Toledo to go 12-1. We will take care of business tonight, but it may be close. After game 2 last year at Indiana, and the rotten reviewed call that they blew for one of our TDs, the college football gods will be on our side tonight. Chief Illini is still mad about that reversed call at Indiana, and wants to make this right. The game last week was sloppy, and we had some bad penalties to keep Toledo close. I fully expect that to be cleaned up tonight.

I predicted a close win last week (albeit with the run game and defense strangling Toledo at the end), and I think Kansas probably isn't as good as we are top to bottom. However, the whole first road trip thing will continue to be a thing until we can consistently ratchet up our early season readiness and preparation. I think we lose a close one.

I have no feel for this game whatsoever, so I'll go with what usually happens: a game that we can and should win, but Something Stupid (TM) happens and we lose. So...looking forward to one of their O-linemen picking up a fumble and rumbling 60 yards for a TD or an Altmyer pass deflecting off the ref for a back-breaking INT.

Finn was a really poor passer. Maybe it was my imagination, but he seemed to only throw with his arm and his weight on his back foot even we he didn't have to.

I'm a big believer in BB (wow, that's a lot of B's). As such, I am expecting a significant bounce back in terms of our line play this week. I know Bret will have put that front and center in prepping for this game. And after seeing what LA is capable of, I'm feeling like we take this one.

Both statements can be true. Opposing OCs had a lot more players to plan & scheme against last year, now more of their attention may be on our DL. And if so, this may free up the new DBs to make plays.

OH boy, I am getting pumped. The (pregnant) wife and I just officially signed the lease for our new 2-bed room in Chicago, so we will be moving from Gold Coast to Roscoe Village in mid-October. So tonight we are going to go check out a few places in that area with some of our friends ... I said my only stipulation is that I am in front of a TV at all times!! Having a few drinks while watching usually heightens the joy of winning AND numbs the pain of defeat ... but every once in a while, it makes every play carry too much weight!

Either way, I have that gameday mood! Let's do this!

P.S. I actually don't mind the Illini playing on Friday night every once in a while IF it's not at Memorial Stadium ... I think it fundamentally hurts our gameday atmosphere given how many fans we have who presumably come from out of town, but if it's at another team's stadium ... eh, it's nice to have one fewer day to wait!

Reiman is good and I agree we don't use him enough. This has been true of many Illini teams, though.

I said after last game: more Reiman and more designed QB runs. I'd love to see it.
