With all 5 starters returning it might be difficult to bring in anyone from the portal. Although we will have plenty of minutes available for a Big or 2. We have to get some help in the post and I don't see that coming from anyone on our current roster.
We do have a freshman post, Hayven Smith, coming in next year from Lincoln Way East. 6'6". Project?

Yes - project

No star rating

.....Smith had been among the top in-state targets for Green this calendar year, with Illinois offering her a scholarship last December after the junior went on an unofficial visit to the UI campus a month earlier. Smith picked the Illini over offers from the likes of Butler, Cleveland State, Harvard, North Dakota, Purdue and Rice, among others...

Yeah. She probably won’t help much as a freshman. We need someone at least as good as Bostic with Smith’s size. We’re not very good at defending the post.

It really will depend on who leaves the team. Peebles and Hobby are out of eligibility after this season and we have 2 recruits coming in.

If Illinois gets open roster spots they will land players. Short term there are plenty of immediate minutes available next season. Long term there are plenty of minutes available. IF all the starters come back, than we lose all 5 of them after next season.

Illini women won 93-52 over Northwestern. That’s good all the way around. Take what you can get.

Just finished the first half of the Illini women's victory today and that was fun....gonna watch the second half after the Lions-Rams game.....
It was the most homer and ill prepared announcers yet this season.....B$G + use of a schools student announcers weakens the product IMHO......

Camille Jackson played. I guess no redshirt.
Cori Allen looks like a player to me. I'd like to see her get more PT.

Still could with Jackson and Dewey. Didn't last year so doubt is changing this season.
Are you saying that Jackson and Dewey can still redshirt even though they have played this season?

Maybe she can help out on defense and rebounding as a freshman. That is more effort and athletic ability. She is tall at 6'6". A few blocked shots would be nice as well. Bostic and Hobbes work hard but are not that athletic.

Good to get a win.

Something is wrong with this team this year. Plays well in spurts but can't close out games. They were tied with very good Indiana team with 5 minutes to go then totally collapsed.

No

Little telling they haven't been redshirted though while here. Honestly thought Dewey was halfway out the door after last season.

Ok, I agree. I don't think that there's any interest in tying up a scholarship for five years on players that aren't likely to make an impact.

I have not paid much attention to WBB until Shauna was hired although I remember our brief moments of success with Tanya Catchings and Ashley Bergen....

We have a lot of WBB players who were not Shauna's recruits that are not playing at all. Given our lack of bench if we want to be a winning program we need those scholarships used by good players.

Definitely

Am baffled on what is going on with Camille Jackson though. Literally was a top 60-70 prospect in the nation and can't sniff a drop of playing time unless we are up by 20+ points towards the end of a game.

Jada posted on social media that she is out for the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles. I will always appreciate that she stuck it out and was a part of helping renew interest in the WBB program. Happy that she could enjoy last years winning season and have a chance to play in the NCAA tourney. Jada was a tough defender and how I loved that silky smooth jump shot out of the corner.
All the best on your recovery #11.
Illini Proud. 🧡🏀💙

Damn. DAMN. Just unfair. Thanks, though.

Liked out of appreciation for delivery of the bad news.

So honest and from the heart. For those of us who have followed Jada’s career we could see the change in her this year beyond basketball. How her beautiful smile comes so easily. The comfort and confidence she shows in her dealings with the media. The joy she displays in being a part of this team. Yes good things are in store for this exceptional young woman. Blessings on the next part of your journey Jada. So thankful you chose to be an Illini. 🧡🏀💙
