I don’t know about this one. Certainly guys deserve another chance but there’s a lot going on here. Coming off the TSJ situation this year, just doesn’t make sense. Plus, I’d prefer a proven point guard considering that Fears is just a year away.
I would guess the positive side is if he has grown up and learned from his mistakes in life. He is a great BB player with 3 years of eligibility. He's matured ... Knows this is his last go around ...
There are a lot of teams in on him ... It just isn't as public as other recruitments ...
Taking a dude who pleaded guilty to beating and strangling a woman would be a brutal look, no?
So what odds would you put on this recruitment?
One of these things is not like the others. We're involved ... There are a handful of other teams involved as well ...
Arkansas, Bama, Texas, McNeese State ...
I agree. To say nothing of what he allegedly did and actually did plead guilty to, just not a good look for the university.I'd want no part of a guy like Dior Johnson. Totally different situation from where I'm standing. A guilty plea, to those charges, aren't something we need representing this program or this university. Particularly coming off a season like this one, however unfair it may have been. I hope for that kid's sake that he has indeed turned his life around, received the wake up call he needed, etc. Given the exorbitant amount of talent that'll be in the portal however, paired with all that this program has to offer to that talent, and all things considered - just....no. Hardest of passes for me personally.
I forgot that’s where Wade landed. You think he’s still there next year or is that a carousel horse he’s on in that photo?
Will we be Hamering away at the coaching carousel......?Absolutely ... We are always active ...
There are also guys on the current team who have been in communication with the staff about their plans for the future ...
Portal season is here ... Along with coaching carousel season ...
I had to hover over that image to get it...

I hope DGL doesn’t leave for the portal. I think he is going to play a lot next year. Like CoHawk.Follow the process.
Can be a good player off the bench but he won't be starting. Gonna bring at least 2 guards and a wing inIf he has to play a lot next year (starter) ... We won't make the tournament
This says a lot regarding DGL talent and upward trajectory of Illinois programIf he has to play a lot next year (starter) ... We won't make the tournament ...
At this point, with the insanity of the portal, I think so long as Ty and Amani are locked down we'll be in healthy shape. Now don't get me wrong, I really hope Sencire comes back as if he has been able to develop even a little bit of consistent shooting and finishing at the rim, I think he'll be invaluable for us as he offers so much upside on defense. But I see Ty and Amani as our 2 biggest core pieces as returnees next year. As for DGL, Luke, Dain, and Moretti?I hope DGL doesn’t leave for the portal. I think he is going to play a lot next year. I'm not so sure Christie himself will be in the portal, but yes, there will be good shooters available. Let's hope Daddy Brad gets a couple of 'em.At this point, with the insanity of the portal, I think so long as Ty and Amani are locked down we'll be in healthy shape. Dain, I think he'd probably be better served somewhere else. Morez, Ty, and Amani would mean he won't get the minutes he wants/needs at this point. Just doesn't seem like a great fit.
Luke, I feel for, but the harsh reality is that when there are going to be shooters like Cam Christie available in the portal, even if Luke were to stay, Illinois will still be shopping for a starting 2. So may no longer be a good fit for him.
Moretti is Moretti. Deep bench player. Wouldn't mind seeing what another year could do for him, but defense and ability to handle bigger physical guards will be a challenge
And finally DGL. Him, I feel has a long way to go to be a valuable contributor at this point. Needs to learn how to play as part of a team, needs a midrange to give himself space, and his size will likely always be an issue as not only height, but I'm not sure how much mass he can effectively put on his frame to allow him to ward off physical defenders and attackers. He's only a freshman so he does have time, but it's going to be a journey for him, not just a simple offseason add 15lbs of muscle freshman to sophomore transition. He may develop into a solid upperclassman player, but too soon to tell in my opinion. It may be best for him to try dominating at a midmajor if he wants the minutes and shooting opportunities
Honestly, I like Amani but I don't necessarily see him as core piece next year and I wouldn't really want to count him as more than like a Dain type role.At this point, with the insanity of the portal, I think so long as Ty and Amani are locked down we'll be in healthy shape. Ty is the one key piece I'm confident in returning and in a best case scenario Domask gets an approved medical waiver. There isn't really any player on the roster that I'd would want to count on as a key contributor outside of Ty though.
I like Goode but can't really count on him to be more than a bench shooter at this point. Love Harris and I think he's valuable as an 8th/9th man in a worst case scenario simply because of his defensive ability. I'm probably higher on Nico than DGL even though DGL probably has more upside but I would trust Nico in a backup pg role next year simply based on how skilled he has looked and he might be the best shooter in the roster.

I love Dain and get he has not been a fit this year.. But I would love to see him stay the course and fight for a spot.. We will need him next year even with Rez and Amani. I think particularly should Marcus return I think there is many possibilities of how the offense could be tweaked to find Dain around the basket and let him work. With regards to Dain I think with a different offense he would be a much better fit. BU has acknowledged its been hard to work him in with the bootyball style play but they've started to figure it out more. Next season will probably less of that and more room for him to go back to operating in the post.
