love the ones we're with - I personally refrain from speculating or projecting who might leave during the season and even after the season. We'll find out when they announce. Just because someone won't be the star player next season doesn't mean they will leave. CH persisted and he bleeds orange and blue. Even if player X may not be in 7/8 man rotation next year, if they are here then I am 100% rooting for their future success and happiness and that they will become a key player in year 3 or 4. I highly recommend reading the article on Shay Bollin posted in the Womens BB thread. I truly hope SH's year of dedication results in a break out year for him and the team.

Not being a star player and not playing much at all are two totally different situations. These kids have 4 years to play a truly big part of a team. If you're getting blocked, if you're fitting the system if you're not playing because the talent level of the competition might be too much.....kids have options.

Ok I'll be the guy.

As someone who fully subscribed to the notion that TSJ got nothing resembling a fair shake from the jump and most definitely deserved to be reinstated once the facts that came to light were made available -

I'd want no part of a guy like Dior Johnson. Totally different situation from where I'm standing. A guilty plea, to those charges, aren't something we need representing this program or this university. Particularly coming off a season like this one, however unfair it may have been. I hope for that kid's sake that he has indeed turned his life around, received the wake up call he needed, etc. Given the exorbitant amount of talent that'll be in the portal however, paired with all that this program has to offer to that talent, and all things considered - just....no. Hardest of passes for me personally.
Cant disagree with you here. Not on the top of my list for all the reasons you mentioned

If he has to play a lot next year (starter) ... We won't make the tournament ...
he seems like a kid that year 3 or 4 could take a jump and be a potential starter. He's a GREAT example of a modern kid that would benefit from past generations that would redshirt him. But current college basketball just doesn't lend itself to redshirting anymore.

Not gonna give a %, but there is a much better chance than I expected on the Damask waiver. He wants to be back. We will see though
Time to put some truth behind that Wisconsin reporter's $500,000 claim!

What the h*ll are these takes in the last page or so?

Domask has a very good argument to get another year. Have we not also seen how the NCAA is getting pwn3d with regard to how they're trying to force their restrictions on players?

No Goode = No tourney?

He's not getting another year. He got hurt during the Covid year which didn't count for eligibility for anyone. It's not happening sadly.

I will be incredibly shocked if Domask gets the waiver. If he does then I'll take my L and be incredibly happy that we get him for another year but I don't see it happening at all. Covid Year didn't count for anyone's eligibility, so a medical waiver from that year just doesn't make a lot of sense. Hope I'm wrong though.

I agree. To say nothing of what he allegedly did and actually did plead guilty to, just not a good look for the university.
9 high schools and his next college will be his 5th commitment (Syracuse, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Clarendon) and he still has never played a second of D-1 basketball. Mix in what he pled guilty to and I hope we’ll pass. Culture.

Counting against someone and not counting are 2 different things

would not be so certain
If anyone can point me to an example where the NCAA has granted this waiver where the Covid season is the one being given back, I will happily revise my view.

But it's the exact same scenario as Tommy DeVito, whose waiver was denied.

A bit of googling also indicates a Notre Dame WBB waiver who opted out of 2020-21 due to Covid concerns, tried to apply for a waiver to get that year back, and was denied.

Nobody can get the eligibility they lost in 2020-21 back, because nobody lost any eligibility in 2020-21. The clock did not run.

If Xavier Johnson can get 6 years. I don't see why Domask cannot.
The year Xavier Johnson suffered a season ending injury was not the Covid season. Open-and-shut medical redshirt. It's his 6th season, but only his 5th against the eligibility clock. The clock did not run in 2020-21.

Jalen Coleman-Lands was the same situation.

I also found this about Cam Spencer at UConn who has the same thing as Domask. 5th year player who was injured in 2020-21:

Spencer looked into remaining a dog — a Husky — beyond this season. He played just five games as a Loyola sophomore in 2020-21 after returning from hip surgery and recently appealed to the NCAA for a waiver to return to UConn for as a sixth-year graduate student in 2024-25. The request was denied by the NCAA, which had already granted an extra year of eligibility to any players on rosters that season, due to complications of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Spencer, in short, won’t be allowed to double-dip. So the calendar’s turn to March marks his one and only shot to win on college's big stage, which would mean putting UConn in position to make history.

I'm sure there were players that got a medical redshirt that year AND got a Covid year. I don't think that would be a hiccup.
The hiccup is the percentage of games played... which in a non covid shortened year, he would be eligible.

I feel like all of these denied waiver requests took place before the NCAA got spanked in court in the 'sitting out a year when you've already used your free transfer' case. I think the NCAA may have recognized the change in the environment and we may find them much more permissive as they try to avoid further litigation. The cash cow is dying, but there is still milk to be had!
