I love Dain and get he has not been a fit this year.. But I would love to see him stay the course and fight for a spot.. We will need him next year even with Rez and Amani. I think particularly should Marcus return I think there is many possibilities of how the offense could be tweaked to find Dain around the basket and let him work.
The one that you're mentioning is really good this year and if they were one of the first teams to throw him a lifeline during a very difficult time....they deserve to be on that list.
Not being a star player and not playing much at all are two totally different situations. These kids have 4 years to play a truly big part of a team. If you're getting blocked, if you're fitting the system if you're not playing because the talent level of the competition might be too much.....kids have options.
Cant disagree with you here. Not on the top of my list for all the reasons you mentioned
he seems like a kid that year 3 or 4 could take a jump and be a potential starter. He's a GREAT example of a modern kid that would benefit from past generations that would redshirt him. But current college basketball just doesn't lend itself to redshirting anymore.

9 high schools and his next college will be his 5th commitment (Syracuse, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Clarendon) and he still has never played a second of D-1 basketball. Mix in what he pled guilty to and I hope we’ll pass. Culture.

The year Xavier Johnson suffered a season ending injury was not the Covid season. Open-and-shut medical redshirt. It's his 6th season, but only his 5th against the eligibility clock. The clock did not run in 2020-21.

I'm sure there were players that got a medical redshirt that year AND got a Covid year. I don't think that would be a hiccup.
