In last 7 seasons Houston has 3 sweet 16/ 1 elite 8/ 1 final 4/ 1 runner up finish. Oh btw the Covid year they didn’t get a chance to play I think Houston has been performing at an elite level
You're not following.

In the last 7 years, Houston is probably a top 3 program. That doesnt mean they finish in the top 3 every year. Just like for us to be a top 10 program doesn't mean that we finish in the top 10 every year.

First of all … I never attacked the kid … I attacked the staffs evaluation and thinking this kid is Big Ten Caliber … Considering not a single other HM staff in the country offered this kid … Don’t think I’m too far off base …

As far as filling out the roster … You wanna go after non HM kids … Fine … Go find DAWGS … Under rated, under recruited kids … Trent Frazier … Andres Feliz … Jacob Grandison … Giorgi … I mean shoot even Coleman Hawkins is that kind of guy … We got away from that and pivoted to this …

And I’m simply stating my opinion that I don’t think it’s the right decision … No one is attacking the kids …

guess it's hot takes, Wednesday
Ya, this doesn't strike as the 4 alarm fire it's being presented as. Do I like it? Not necessarily, but I don't see an end of the bench player who doesn't cost much or demand tons of tick(who we have to have) being a big deal. If there is a trend, then ok, let's talk more.

Unacceptable … Shouldn’t be recruiting … Really shouldn’t be on staff … But that’s a whole other subject …

The kid barely averaged double figures in freaking Iowa at 6’8 and we think he’s Big Ten caliber ??

Give me a break …
After watching the highlights, it was impressed. Love his style of play, and thought that he showed that he had some very good skills, and the potential develop into a very good player . I don't understand why you seem so intent on labeling him as a mistake, or perhaps a worthless, and undeserving recruit.

1. Name calling is juvenile.
2. Recruiting is fluid. A couple of decades ago there were years that Illinois had many talented recruits who were interested in Illinois. There were other years when the cupboard was bare. Putting all of our eggs in the Illinois basket didn't do us well. The same may be true of Europe.
3. No, we weren't dependent upon Chicago for our recruiting during recent seasons. However, there may be a really good player who would perfectly fit our team's needs there in the future. Wouldn't it make more sense for us to be cultivating relationships in Chicago rather than sending someone there who isn't exactly known for his success in that department?

Davis's potential under the guidance of strength and conditioning coach Adam Fletcher is a positive factor.

Davis, like other recruits, might need time to develop, but he has the opportunity to become a productive rotation player and potentially more down the line. His skillset, including passing ability and good footwork around the paint, suggests he could become a valuable piece for our future.
His length and toughness make him a good defender capable of guarding multiple positions and protecting the rim, notes 247Sports. He led the state of Iowa in blocks during his junior and sophomore years.

If you look at his videos he plays and looks like Tyler Wahl from Wisky. Let’s see how it works out we may be surprised.

Seems reasonable. The way this board takes cues from certain insiders can be annoying
Bingo. NOBODY knows what this kid will grow into. What is he, 17 years old?

He's 6'8" and is a project. What's wrong with taking that on? Worst case scenario, he gets absolutely no time and he moves on within the next two years. With 15 scholarships, it's ok to take multiple fliers.

Ultimately, it's going to come down to the portal and getting guys that were exactly like this. They started their careers at a MAC school, developed and then have blue bloods throwing money at them after their sophomore years.

Some of the takes here are beyond ridiculous.

I don't think anyone has an issue if this is a 12-15 kid that Illinois didn't pay any money to. What people have a problem with is if Coaches think this is meaningful minutes kid that is getting NIL $$ as some have suggested.

I have no idea how the coaching staff views him.

Obviously it’s a new recruiting strategy. Have players 11-15 on the bench be flyers who either become upperclassmen in the rotation or transfer out.
