It was close looked like he was just a hair past the line, then came back a little to get the ballReciever was behind the line of scrimmage.
and he throws laser beamsFrom what I've seen elsewhere, the staff believes Clayton has the better long term upside and is more likely to be the starter next year.
We had our guys in the right place, I think not sure we could have prepared any better than we did, it was just a perfectly placed kick between our outside guy and the sidelines and they pounced on it.And I hope we do a lot of special teams film study in our off week so our guys can recognize the onside kick.
We have a bye next weekIt’s a Big Ten road win. Accept it and let’s get to next week.
To those in media that covers Illinois football games - Can one of you please have some guts and ask BB why our best running back named Barnett isn’t getting more PT?? Absolutely makes no sense!!! PLEASE!!
Well yeah, because when I am at the game, I am hanging with my friends and other Illini fans rooting for the team and having a great time. At home it’s on my couch often alone.. Much less interactive whic gives fans more time to complain.I've noticed this too. Huge difference between fan vibes online and fan vibes at games:
Ball security nightmare.I need an explanation for Barnett disappearing after two monster runs.
This is an important point. MSU had all of the momentum and a home crowd, Houser was out and in came a true freshman QB. Pre BB they would have folded. But they didn’t. This is certainly not our best team but they do have sand. This is the type of game that so many Illini teams would have frittered away in the past. I am thankful for any win at this point in the season.
I agree 100 % ......Clayton was the last choice for me on 4th and inches.......Barnett , Anderson or Laughery made much more sense .......If someone could get a message to Lunney in the next two weeks...before our next 4th and inches....that Clayton weighs less than my neighbors 5'7" pregnant wife.
Maybe pour some lead weights down his pants if he insists on calling the dumbest plays known to 4th down in history.
Could you explain please? How does that affect the choice between the two?

I'm not sure there is a P4 team with worse talent on D than usThere is no logical reason that our defense is so incredibly bad, including the secondary where we actually have talent.
NIL or not, there are teams with much worse talent than us that can stop a few drives without giving up points.
I’m hoping this season is a lot of lessons learned and we do things differently and better in the offseason.
I believe Brett alluded in some interviews last week that Barnett doesnt know the playbook well enough.. That when hes in they only have limited options they can run. Has to do with pass protection and audibles.
is it talent or the scheme?I'm not sure there is a P4 team with worse talent on D than us
Two things can happen at the same time, in this case perhaps creating a perfect storm of defensive weakness? It’s starting to look like a desperate experiment gone wrong.is it talent or the scheme?
Yesis it talent or the scheme?
What he said “Under NCAA Rule 7-3-8, defensive pass interference rules only apply if a legal forward pass crosses the neutral zone (the line of scrimmage).” the ball never got close to crossing the line of scrimmageNo PI behind the line of scrimmage
Agreed. I am not a fan of a three man front unless you have solid LBs. That said, in the first half, we kept switching from a three man front to a 4 man front and it confused MSU. The issue is that they adjusted their offense and we didn’t adjust anything in the second half. I wish X would snap out of his funk and start playing like he is capable. Two things can happen at the same time, in this case perhaps creating a perfect storm of defensive weakness? It didn’t really impact the game- they called a penalty on us on the replayed kickoff to pin us deep, MSU got the ball backed quickly and scored. The only difference was we would have had more time on the clock with the score tied and maybe done more with itExcited that we won, but we got lucky on the offsides call against MSU on the onside kick. We hardly ever benefit like that.
The Fitz FilesI hope Fitz gets fined, reprimanded whatever for his flipping the bird to whoever he flipped the bird to. Maybe he was flipping off the people who left at halftime. If not it was either the refs or Illinois.
The dude is a loser.
Turning the ball over to the other team by failing to pick up fourth and inches, deep in your own territory, is the ultimate ball security nightmare.Ball security nightmare.
Because there was still a minute plus on the clock and if we had to get a FG that is enough time to get in position for one and win the game. The other team is a lot more conservative if it’s a tie game and a turnover costs them the game in that last drive. If you go for 2 you want it to be a win/lose trade off - not a win/lose/lose scenario, the math doesn’t work thendid anyone else wonder why MSU didn't go for two at the end of regulation?
