I'm no insider, but when a kid has been connected to a school before he was even officially in the portal, it's not hard to see why it might be a good idea for both the school and the kid to play things a little slower. Maybe even go visit another school or two. Just saying, y'know, hypothetically.

You don't even need to have the schools or NCAA pay players. Just need NCAA to make it legal for kids to have their own sponsorship deals.

Ethics and morals are not the same as laws and rules. Laws and rules are arbitrary and created by people for all sorts of reasons -- reasons that are not always "moral" or "ethical". In fact, it's entirely possible to have an immoral law or an unethical rule.
