Boston, Toronto, and Rangers rumored to be the front runners for Vesey. Any idea how much he would cost? If Vesey does not sign with the Hawks would Shaw become more of a priority for the right price?

He's signing an ELC wherever he goes. So, say ~$900K. IOW, completely affordable and under cost control for 3 years. The case for signing w/the Hawks is immediate 1LW with Toews as his center. Great team, great coach, great city. And a lot less pressure/microscope than his hometown or Toronto. Look at the money Saad's making after his ELC was up.

Who knows on Shaw? I'd like him gone, because he's too expensive, but we'll see.

Rumor has it that he's asking $3.5 - $4MM. That's too rich for my blood. I like Shaw, but I wouldn't go over $3MM.

I wouldn't go over $2.5M. Shaw's been very good for the Hawks, but he's simply too expensive. He deserves to get paid...by another team.

Hear, hear. Campbell can still play. Pair him w/Hammer and all of a sudden our D is strong once again. Much rather spend the money on Campbell (~$2M + $1M in easily attainable bonuses) than Shaw.

I was always impressed with his skating ability with the puck and how fast he cleared the zone not with a pass but by skating it out. Similar to Keith in that regard.

Shaw dealt to Montreal for 2 second rounders in this years draft. Shaw wants a $4M+ AVG deal. Hawks don't even have that much cap space. Had to either deal him or deal Kruger to keep him. Looks like Stan made the right choice. Coach Q is going to hate every rookie on his bottom 6 though lol.

Good trade.

Good trade, but now we need to start filling some of the holes we are making.

Sign Soupy to a 1 year deal for ~$2.25M and our D is set.

Hartman slots in on the 4th line for Shaw. Sign Vesey. Schmaltz slots in 3rd or 1st line, depending on whether they land Vesey. Tyler Motte is knocking on the door. Lundberg may take 4C. Ras 13th forward. There will be some cheap veteran forwards available. Hawks may sign one.

If the Hawks can't protect Pokka, they'll probably trade him for a slightly younger prospect who's protected (e.g. Kapanen).

Lots of changes, to be sure. But, if things break the right way, the Hawks will be legit contenders again.

Shaw gets 6 years @ an average of $3.9 million per year from Montreal.

Glad he's getting paid. Glad it's not by the Hawks. $3.9M is far, far too much for a bottom 6 forward for the way the Hawks are built.

Come Friday, the Hawks will sign Campbell and, hopefully, Shipachyov. Think they're legit.

I have no doubt that they will play hard and end up with a good regular season record. But to really compete for a Cup they need to get better than St. Louis and Dallas and I don't think they are. Interesting trade between Montreal and Nashville today too.

Between the Subban/Webber trade and the Hall/Larsson swap, quite a bizarre day in hockey trades.

Hawks in on Eric Staal. If he'll take ~$1.5M on a 1 year deal, it's a no-brainer. Toews-Staal-Anisimov-Kruger: strength up the middle.

Campbell looks like it's happening. $2M, 1 year. Hawks D is much improved.
