I keep waiting for us to bottom out in this horrendous skid, but somehow it keeps getting worse and worse. It's unbelievable. The way they are playing it looks like they are never going to win a game again (I know it's a long season and they will more than likely have another hot streak or two, but that's just what it feels like right now).

Look on the bright side. J.B. Schuck looked decent in relief...

Beyond excited for the draft. Would love to see Corey Ray drop to 10, but that seems unlikely. Hopeful for this combo:

10: Blake Rutherford
26: Cody Sedlock
I wouldn't mind seeing them get the catcher from Miami, Zach Collins.

It's weird, because the only one who's connected us to Collins is Keith Law, who's as good a resource as any. That said, several close to the org have said we're barely kicking the tires on Collins, and that Law's connections to the Sox front office are thin.

I love that Collins' bat is about as ready as an amateur's can get, but don't love that he doesn't project defensively as a catcher. Not sure if a 1B/DH is worth a pick at the 10 slot.

oof, everything I'm reading today has none of our top targets making it to our slots. For what it's worth, Law confirmed this morning that Sox are unlikely to take Collins at 10 (who should be available).

If no one we like makes it to us, it might be worth taking an under slot guy so that we have extra cash to over pay for talent elsewhere in the draft. I've read that after the top 8 or so, it's all the same until about 30.

Regarding Collins specifically, if it weren't the Sox, I would argue that players who we are told can't stick at a position do it all the time. But, I doubt the Sox can develop his skills.

Though in the case of catcher with an immediately projectable bat, it's not sensible to keep him behind the plate and possibly truncate his career.

It depends on the bat. You certainly don't keep Bryce Harper's bat behind the plate. On the other hand, the Giants have had success with Posey playing quite a bit behind the plate.

These are of course outliers. The real question is what to do with a guy who is a + hitter for a catcher, but only an average hitter at 1B.

Coincidently, I remember people questioning Posey's ability behind the plate (Lucroy too). I can't remember whether it was with regards to their being ready to play at the MLB level at a young age, or in terms of long term ability though.

This is a good point, and one to consider if we pass on Blake Rutherford, who has all the leverage in the world to ask for well over slot.

Man. I think we really screwed up. But they got their guy, I guess.

It's really hard for us to know. It's not like the NFL draft where we have seen these guys play significantly. That being said, based on what I've read from talent evaluators, this is not a good start to our draft. But only time will tell.

It just doesn't seem like a good value to draft a reliever and likely 1B/DH with two first round picks. Especially considering the talent that dropped to 10.

In other news, happy Tim Anderson day. Not convinced he's ready, but it'll be exciting nonetheless.

Based on where they took him, they must think he can stick behind the plate. We'll find out. I'm also skeptical of the pick.

I don't think he is even close to ready. They're grasping because they are quickly falling out of the race. That being said, even though he isn't ready to be what I hope he can be, he is probably still an upgrade compared to what we were sending out there.

My primary concern is that Robin will platoon him to protect him. If you're going to bring your top prospect up, he had better be ready to go every day in my opinion.

At the beginning of the season, fangraphs.com had rated Cleveland as the class of the division with the Sox, Royals, and Tigers behind them all muddled together at about .500. Third of the way through the season, that's exactly where things stand.

Excited to go to today's game. Didn't know when I got the tickets it would be Quintana. Always nice to have a top pitcher going when you're at the game. Looks like I'll be getting Arrieta when I see the Cubs on Friday, too!

Did I seriously just see Robin intentionally walk the bases loaded in the third inning?

Who could have foreseen that backfiring?

Ummm...yeah. Gonzalez had been missing on the outside corner from the get go last night. So now you got Upton coming up, bags loaded, Gonzalez can't come back in over the plate 'cause Upton CAN hit the ball, so the situation pretty much dictated Upton would probably draw a walk...and drive in a run.

I hope Ventura is gone soon...

A friend of mine is a scout for the White Sox.
Saw him Sunday, right after the draft.
He was beyond excited, said it is the best draft the team has ever had.
Feels that the top 5 guys are all major league prospects and will be on the big squad in 2-3 years. Some may well be up in the Fall.
Is he right? I have no idea, but thought you would enjoy the opinion.

I didn't love the two first round picks for various reasions, but I did love that they were clearly prioritizing plate discipline the entire draft.

I'm also keeping a close eye on our 6th round pick Luis Curbelo. Safe money says he probably doesn't sign and heads to the U, but wow does he look talented at a premium position.

PLEASE!!!

Robin Ventura is coming under fire in Chicago, and some White Sox people are starting to wonder whether a change could be coming, or maybe even warranted.

As one White Sox-connected person put it, things are “not great” regarding Ventura’s stats.

Ventura is well-respected within the organization, but as the team has imploded, going from its terrific 23-10 start to .500, there’s starting to be talk among those in the know that Ventura’s status could be affected.

Nobody believes it’s necessarily Ventura’s fault but there is a growing feeling, even among some with the team, that it might not hurt to do something. “I think patience has been showed,” one White Sox person said.

What in the world? He's the worst in-game manager in the league, but apparently his biggest fault is that he's not intense enough? Are people watching these games? HE IBB'D THE BASES LOADED IN THE 3RD WITH MIGUEL GONZALEZ PITCHING LIKE, 2 DAYS AGO.

The "anti-Ozzie"? I'll take the real Ozzie...

oh god, please no.

James Shields. Time to DFA?

31 earned runs in 11.2 IP over his last 4 starts between the Pads and Sox.

There is certainly something really wrong with him. He's either hurt or tipping his pitches. I'd guess the former, and there'll be a DL stint followed by an extended rehab assignment fairly soon.
