2016 White Sox

Yeah, the team is definitely too thin. The unexpected start puts management in a difficult situation. Should they go for it, which requires another SP at a minimum and likely another bat to go with it. To get the types of pieces I think we need, Anderson will be traded along with at least one of our pitching prospects.

FWIW, I'd do it, but they need to do it soon. That's the price of contending with Sale in his prime.

Hahn was quoted last week as saying they're ready to pull the trigger on a big deal ASAP, but trade partners might not quite be there yet. Also read some Merkin & Hayes takes that suggest Hahn would be willing to part with our best prospects due to having multiple first round picks this year.

Man, I'd hate to lose our only legitimate position player prospect, particularly at a premium spot like SS, but I get it. I don't think there's any doubt - provided the rug isnt pulled out in the next month - there's a blockbuster trade imminent.

At least Rodon was good yesterday!

I realize that you need a partner, but I am a big proponent of making deals early. As soon as you know you're going for it, you go for it. It that means giving a little extra to have the guy for an extra 2 months, so be it. The Sox could be on shaky ground by the deadline given the current roster.

This is getting old...

Up 6-3 in the 6th
2 leadoff singles from the 8 & 9 spots (Navarro, Jackson). 2 on no out.
Adam Eaton gives himself up, sac bunt. 1 out, runners move over.
Rollins strikeout, 2 down
Frazier grounds out. No Runs.

Ugh. I was following online at work, so didn't see. But, you're telling me Robin took the bat out of Eaton's hands to let Rollins K from the 2 hole, huh? Good stuff. :tsk:

Precisely.

It
just
keeps
happening.

Almost came back to bite us too. Big win though. The approach at the plate was really strong. If we could take the back-half tonight with Sale/Quintana starting game 3 and 4...yes please.

If you go off post game comments, Eaton bunted on his own. Did the same thing in the second game. Bunting for a hit knowing that he at worst gets the guys over. I don't like it, but not every bunt with men on base is a sac bunt.

I actually heard Stone and JB talk about it during game two. Believe it was JB said Robin didn't call the bunt, but has given Eaton the green lite to do what he thinks is right in that situation.

My issue with the bunts is that Rollins has been asked to do it. He has never been asked to bunt in his career. He was a slugger. He is asked to do it now because he can't hit any more. Not because he is good at it. My request isn't for less bunting, but for less JRoll

I guess where I'm falling is that the vast majority of the bunt calls have been ill timed rally killers. It's still falling on Ventura to manage his team, and that means end this trend of giving up outs.

Well, that was a rough inning. Good at bats by the Indians. Just kept fouling pitches off. Our offense needs to figure it out tonight.

UGH.... Rollins in the 2 hole. .288 OBP Can we please move Melky or even Lawrie into that spot. Please put someone who is getting on base at over a 300 clip in that spot. Put guys who get on base in front off Frazier and Abreu and give them the chance to drive them in.
My attempt at what this lineup should be
Eaton L
Melky S
Abreu R
Frazier R
Lawrie R
Navaro/Avila S/L
Garcia R
Rollins S
Jackson R

The past 3+ weeks have been a rapid fall from a good position. Not that long ago, after the slide started, I mentioned that we were starting a crucial 14 game stretch. So far we are 3-7 during that span. We now have 4 games in KC. We could really use 3/4 here, but even a split could keep the wheels from completely falling off.

Is it an over-reaction to wonder if we'll be selling this year? To compete, I think we need at least 1 impact bat and at least 1 SP. Does our farm have enough to get that? Maybe, but it will be completely empty if we go that route.

I don't think we sell regardless of how things go from here. I think this team was built to go for it through next year. Contract lengths/value in return on guys signed past next year are why I think that. If we go into June next year out of it, it will be a fire sale.

I would like to see them find a few pieces for this year, with out getting rid of Fulmer or Anderson. Lefty bat and 1 pitcher if not 2. Can Hahn find any older guys in the last year of a deal that wouldn't cost a ton in return? What would it cost to get Beltran from NY? I wouldn't move Fulmer or Anderson for him, but I would swap Avi for him.

It probably is, but the memory of the '97 White Flag trade has popped up in my head a few times over the past week. It just doesn't seem in Hahn's (or perhaps more importantly Kenny Williams) makeup to tear it down, for better or for worse.

I'd like us to address catcher if at all possible, namely Jonathan Lucroy. We've been garbage from that spot by just about every metric.

'97 is my reference point also. But to echo what IL in IA said, we don't have much to sell. Cabrera maybe. Some of the bullpen arms perhaps. But not much else based on the way the team is constructed.

I will add however, that I hope this team does not add a mediocre bat and/or SP. That is not sufficient. If we're going to buy, we had better buy. Otherwise it is a waste of assets.

Lucroy would be a good add. He would dramatically change the lineup. I'm not sure what we would have to give up for him though.

The pen absolutely tanked tonight...pathetic. Thanks Jennings for looking in your cap to read your little prayer...and walking the only batter you faced, which led to 4 runs being scored. Guess the imaginary sky fairy wasn't happening for ya tonight...
