2016 White Sox

That's significant, I guess. I'm not sure what difference that extra $$ makes at the very start of a rebuild.

That's money that can go to international free agent signings so you can bring up your own Moncada. And you'll need far less money to do so than the Sox did with the new CBA rules.

Or it's money you can use to "overspend" on amateur draft picks so they sign with your team instead of heading back to college.

Or it's money you can use to sign a Jason Hammel-ish pitcher on a short term deal and then flip at the deadline for prospects. (Something the Cubs did to great effect in their rebuild.)

Sure, I mean, I'm not saying we should give the money back, but we're going to have all sorts of expendable income here shortly I presume.

Moncada is a better DH now than anyone you rolled out there last year. He takes over at 3B whenever Frazier gets shipped.

They didn't trade Sale to get a DH. Moncada can play 2B or CF.

As far as the other guys....we'll see. Prospects don't always pan out so I was hoping for more established players. Sale's team friendly contract made him invaluable so we'll have to wait and see which Sox got the better end of the deal.

This is true. However, I'm happy with the deal right now and think that ultimately both teams will benefit from this trade. Moncada is likely to be an outstanding player. I think at least one of the other prospects will turn out to be a major contributor also. It's not as much as I would have liked, but I do think that it's a good haul. We are at a time when prospects are highly valued, therefore this was probably the best we could do. Flip a couple more pieces and we might be able to compete soon.

I do think the Sox getting money in this is relatively meaningless from the fan's perspective. We're a couple of years away so they aren't going to spend it, they will pocket it. I'd like to think they'll spend on guys they can move for more prospects at the deadline, but I have little faith in the ability of the front office.

I think its already been said, but I'd like to see them put that money into the international free agent signing pool and go out and get another Moncada. Or when you have a top 3 pick in the next couple drafts, use the money to make sure you can sign the best player available to you. Don't let them go back to college.

I also went into the winter meetings having high hopes for what the sox could bring back, and not sure if they were realistic or not. But a lot of moves around the league are going the Sox way right now. The fact that Washington has missed out on another closer, means they have to pay more than they wanted for Robertson.

Will the Nationals pursue Quintana? A little bit lower asking price but still a major haul should come from him too, unless they wanted to keep one of him and Sale.

They're reportedly in on him. Met last night to talk Q. Also talking Eaton. The deal they offered for Sale seems like the right price for Q to me. Giolito/Robles + young prospects.

I agree and I hope that these other GMs see the value that Q would bring to an organization. Isn't he under control for 4 more years too?

I would definitely take that offer for Q too.

Why not try to get them to take both, Eaton and Q, and have them add a piece or two (not sure what Eaton is worth) to the deal that they offered for Sale?

WSCR said Robles wasn't in the deal. Didn't have any other details.

Wow what a haul for the white sox. Earlier this week they had one of the weakest farm systems in the MLB and now they will probably end up top 5, when it is all said and done.

Do we really think they are done? I'm guessing they can find a trade partner for Q at worst.

Right now we have the #1, #3, #30, #38, #58, and #80 prospects in all of baseball. If we trade a few more pieces we are going to be all over the place on that list, even more than we already are.

Congrats south siders! Huge uptick in prospects this week.

What could Quintana bring in return?

Nope. No way, no how. The truck's backed up. Everything must go.

I think Frazier and Robertson are locks to be dealt. Abreu and Q 50/50.

Sky's the limit, really. He's one of the top 10 pitchers in baseball on a ridiculous deal. We got about 90 cents on the dollar in the Sale trade, so shoot for an equivalent package, in my opinion.

Only question WRT to Q and Abreu is: is there a team willing to ante up sufficiently? If so, they're gone.

+1 We should be able to get a very good prospect haul for Q.
