2016 White Sox

I think Frazier and Robertson are locks to be dealt. Abreu and Q 50/50.

Sky's the limit, really. He's one of the top 10 pitchers in baseball on a ridiculous deal. We got about 90 cents on the dollar in the Sale trade, so shoot for an equivalent package, in my opinion.

Oh come on, the White Sox did not employ 2/5 of the Top 10 pitchers in MLB.

Just off top of head I can name:

1) BumG
2) Cueto
3) Kershaw
4) Greinke
5) Lester
6) Arrieta
7) Thor
8) DeGrom
9) Strasburg
10) Scherzer
11) Kluber
12) Sale
13) Verlander
14) Darvish
15) Tanaka
16) Price
17) Porcello
18) Hamels
19) King Felix

I mean I get your point, but Q isn't a top 10 pitcher in MLB

Only question WRT to Q and Abreu is: is there a team willing to ante up sufficiently? If so, they're gone.

+1 We should be able to get a very good prospect haul for Q.

I'll be honest...I don't think Hahn's going to get a whole lot for Abreu. We'll see.

On Baseball Tonight:

- Jim Bowden called today's trade lopsided in favor of the Sox and spoke to four GMs who feel similarly. Also said that Hahn has done a phenomenal job in the last 24 hours and that moves so far have sped up rebuild from 5-7 years to 3-4 years;

- Buster Olney said that rival evaluators are texting him saying the Sox are kicking butt, and reaction to today's trade within industry was unanimous as a wipeout trade for the Sox;

and

- Keith Law noted that the Sox have historically had a league bottom ranked farm system. Yesterday and today's moves have placed them in top 5-10, and he expects the haul for Quintana to move them to the top farm system in baseball.

I'm so excited. Get out of the way Kenny, let Hahn do this.

I went ahead and separated it out to leave who on your list finished with a higher WAR in 2016.

Maybe it was a flash in the pan. Let's try the last 3 years?

Kershaw
Kluber
Scherzer
Price
Sale
Arrieta
Lester

I don't think they can get Moncada, and Benintendi in the same deal, but I do think they could get Benintendi and Devers. Add in Kopech and I'm sure Hahn will want more added to it.

Just wanted to quote you. They got Moncada and Kopech. Nice work Rick Hahn

You cannot appreciate Quintana unless you watch him every 5th day. The fans of other teams just can't comprehend his value. Although a lesser name than Sale, I think he's of greater value to the Sox. I think he stays because no one gives us what we want for him. We'll re-sign him and let him anchor the rotation when the new kids are ready to play.

However, that doesn't mean that I would keep him if someone is willing to give us another Sale-like package.

In general, I've loved the trades. We got what I expected for Sale, but way more than I expected for Eaton. I think we did well enough that we can sit on Q if people are too stupid to realize how good he is. Robertson will bring back a piece and we can likely get some good pieces for Frazier and Abreu. We're finally in a strong position for the first time in a decade.

Hahn will keep Q if no one steps up. That said, I think Q will be moved. If not now, maybe at the deadline.

The trades look VG to excellent on paper, but prospect trades, by nature, are very difficult to gauge.

The last rumor I heard was that the Astros were making a strong push for Q. What pieces do they have to offer that they think they can part with? It sounds like most think if they get Q they will be right there with the Red Sox for the best team in the American League. That should tell you all you need to know about how good the White Sox 1 and 2 pitchers were last year.

I went to a Sox-Royals game last year with Quintana starting. He was excellent. The rest of the Sox weren't. They lost something like 2-0, without a runner getting past 1st base after the first inning. I razzed my Sox fan friend by telling them that, "Quintana is going to look so good in a Cubs uniform next year."

I don't actually think that's going to happen since I don't see a good fit between the teams. But I am a Quintana fan. He's a bit (a very little bit) like the Cubs Hendricks in that he doesn't overwhelm you at first glance with his stuff - He just knows how to pitch.

The thing with Quintana is that he's got four years left of control on his contract. So it's conceivable that the Sox could be ready to compete come that last year of the contract. So, I don't think the Sox move him unless they get the "offer you can't refuse." (Which is what I think happened in Eaton's case.)

Hahn should really move on to unloading Frazier, Lawrie, Robertson, Abreu and Cabrera. I bet one of the National League teams really hurting for a right-handed bat (Giant, Dodgers, Mets) surprises you with how much they cough up for Frazier.

Q: Precisely. Hahn is in the catbird seat. He can and will wait until he gets a great offer.

vets: adios. Agreed that Frazier should bring a VG return.

I think waiting for Chapman and Jansen to sign will create urgency for teams missing out and drive value for Robertson. I think that's what will go down with Frazier as well. When Turner signs, his value can go up. Id push Abreu now. Sell him over Edwin E. and Trumbo. Push the no draft pick forfeit. That could work with the Rockies who are already giving up a pick for Desmond.

I think you're right. And then Cabrera and Lawrie can be deadline guys for desperate hopeful playoff teams with holes due to injury or whatever.

Good call. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if that's the plan.

I think there's plenty of fans that don't understand how good he is, but front offices aren't that dumb. Pick your metric, Quintana is elite.

The two teams I think are interesting for Q right now are Houston and Colorado. Houston wont give up Bregman, but I think they have quite a few position players I would like to see in a deal. And Colorado needs a pitcher. They are going for it. If Hahn can get Dahl or Brendon Rodgers to build a deal around, I think they can get it done. Rodgers would give the Sox 3 of the top 6 prospects.

I agree with this. But, owners are not as smart as their FO and owners do care what the fans think. The Sale trade here in Boston has gotten some pushback for giving up as much as they did. A similar package for Quintana would get killed by the fans here. That despite Quintana possibly being a better medium-term option right now.

I just wish this whole fire sale would get over with already. I know Hahn can be patient but I would rather just have it be done so we can see the final tangible results that having the sale returned us. I know the whole process of getting these to the majors and seeing on field results is already going to be long enough just wish the sale was over so I could see how we stack up with our new young talent.

I agree with wanting to see who and what goes where and comes back for Q, Robertson, Frazier, Abreau and Melky. After that is where it gets fun. This is where Hahn gets to go out and find the guys to flip for more prospects. Guys on 670 talked about this yesterday a bit. Finding the post hype bust pitcher that Coop can fix for half a year and turn into prospects at the deadline. Theo killed it doing this for the Cubs. Scott Feldman turned in to a Cy young ace. Its a little strange, but I'm excited about watching this organization go out and lose 100 games in 2017, just for the fact that I can see the plan in place and watching young guys get brought up and develop is going to be exciting.
