Googled Dylan Meyer today; saw a photo of his golf bag: looks orange, blue, white with logo of Crohn's-Colitis Foundation of Indiana and a big, orange block I on it it. Way to go, Dylan!

Also saw a Golf Channel interview; he's sporting a Callaway visor, so I suppose he's getting some endorsement money.

I hope Dylan's got a local caddy to help him negotiate Shinnecock. He described it as a "tough track."

Good luck to him and Stricker.

One more thing: according to SB Nation, Dylan is a 1,000-1 shot to win US Open. Stricker is 100-1. But there are a few 2,000-1.

I'm putting $2 across the board on Dylan. If he comes in, it's pizza on me for everyone on this here forum. Two slices, maximum.

Golf has to be a tough game for anyone suffering with Crohn's.

Thanks for the heads up! He tied for ninth last week in the Champions Tour, so hopefully he keeps playing well.

DJ Funk holding steady so far in the first round of the US Open.

Colitis is no joke either. I don't how you play competitive golf when it flares up. Sure sounds like Dylan has it under control thanks to diet changes. Hope so.

I'm sort of jumping the gun here but Dylan is+7 after 17 holes, matching cards with Phil and Bubba. Beating Speith, Day, McIlroy, Schwartzel and others. Tough track indeed. And with afternoon winds forecast to reach 30 mph, this won't be the end of it.

Dylan Meyer in the clubhouse at +7, 77 after the first round.

Currently in a tie for 112th, but that will improve unless the winds suddenly die down at Shinnecock. Shot better than both Jordan Speith and Rory McIlroy today. Great first round on a tough track in tough conditions for his first professional tourney.

Steve Stricker on the course +1 through his first three holes. I think he started on the back nine today. Not sure.

Insane conditions, just saw Justin Thomas settle for a double bogey after needing 4 approach shots to stay on the green. Only 5 in red today so far. Strick is now +3 through 11. Dylan needs a strong day tomorrow to make the cut.

I was wrong about the colors of Dylan's bag. In a photo of him on the range next to Tiger, the bag looks red, white and blue. Bet he still has the bald eagle head cover.

According to PGA.com, Dylan's caddy is a veteran by the name of Steve Hulka.

He's been a caddy since 1972, according to Association of Pro Tour Caddies, and also runs a business transporting players' equipment to and from events.

He was also listed as one of the 36 greatest caddies of all time by another organization.

He's from Chicago and played golf at guess where? Illinois.

I bet he's caddied at Shinnecock a couple of times. It would appear Dylan's in good hands.

Awesome! I have heard that name before, not sure where. But Hulka isn't exactly common. Maybe it's just my childhood fascination with the Incredible Hulk(a)!!

Was thinking same about Incredible Hulka. I urge all of you to google Steve Hulka. What a story! He and his family have not only transported players' equipment by trailer, but also luggage, toys, whatever to avoid screening at airports after 9/11.

Stricker at -3 and Meyer at -7. The important number is that they are both within 10 of the lead. Keep that relationship on Friday and both are good for the weekend. Wind is suppose to be significantly less that today, like 10mph and under for the rest of the tourney. GO O&B!!

I believe I am a bit off in my criteria to make the cut. It looks like it is the top 70 and ties, which puts Meyer out of the running as he is outside of that range. Early cut line estimate is 6 over with ties putting the number at 82 golfers.

Also, I just don't know how Stricker does it! Steady as she goes and trust in your swing to the max I guess. Meyer has a bit of work to do today.

Breadman, I read yesterday that the cut is top 60 and ties. No 10 stroke cushion anymore. The article said they did away with that a few years ago, since there were too many guys making the cut and they didn't want to go to teeing off front and back on Sat/Sun, nor did they want to go with threesomes on the weekend, either.

Currently that's at +6. 63 golfers. Stricker currently in at +6.

Dylan is in the last group off of the 1st tee today, so he'll know the number he needs to get to.

Was hoping Strick could have shot a 70 to just stay even. In this tourney, that is all you need. Oh well.

Excellent update PI!!
And here I thought I was paying attention to something important for once in my life!

I still thought it was within 10 strokes as well, until I saw that yesterday. Stricker in the clubhouse at +8, currently tied for 77th. usopen.com is currently predicting the cutline to be +9 and better to keep playing, +10 out.

So hopefully Stricker is in. Dylan teeing off at 1:42 Central time. Needs to shoot well today to play the weekend.

Was at the Open on Wed and Thur. Saw Dylan going off #1 with Stricker on Wed, and he gave me an -INI in response to my ILL-. Struck me as a fine young man. Had a tough time on a couple of holes on Thur, but he hung in there to get the 77.

Fox guys are saying +8 is projected cut right now. A few minutes ago, Dylan was E through 6 holes. He just about has to play even par today to make the cut. I hope he will.

Did Stricker respond?

How old is the ILL-INI thing? Not an Illinois grad or attendee, unfortunately. Daddy went there, though. Always been an Illini fan, even when living - especially when living - in Mizzourah.

P.S. Was at grocery store a few years ago wearing Illini cap. Woman looked at me and said "I-L-L!" I thought: "no, I feel fine." I recovered in time to respond I-N-I! But I think she knew I was a phony.

Paul Azinger on Fox just said projected cut at +7. Dylan +1 through 9. +8 for tournament.

Go for (controlled) broke, Dylan.

U.S. Open website still projecting +8 cut, which is now the cut line (barely). Should hold since there aren't many birdies to be had. That's good news for Strick, and hopefully Dylan can at least hold even for the last 6 holes (he is +8 through 12, and played well on those holes yesterday).
