BU comments today makes it clear the roster is pretty much set, unless we find a grad transfer. Have to keep our eyes open for any that might be a good one to look at, don't think many out there.

Last sentence is key there. The class of '18 is absolutely loaded, it would take a special player for them to consider using another scholly on anyone besides a 5th year.

Heirman is eventually going to have to land kids that he didn't coach at LaLu. Wonder if he will be able to have any success.

Wish JCL best of luck, wished he would of stuck it out at Illinois. But I was concerned about his tools and how they fit into BU system. JCL great kid and student. But thought he was one of our worst defenders and wasn't sure he would improve significantly. He also could not dribble drive, post, or pass well. So all he could do in the BU offense was shoot 3s. When I look ahead I much rather have Kipper at the 3. Also Mark Smith, Frazier, and Damonte look to be more of complete players that are needed in the BU offense. Adding Mark Alstork was probably the nail in the coffin, he was going to be the combo guard and or wing along with Smith.

Right but hes got several years to get the ones he did coach. Get some wins over the next so many years and youve got come cred now. Not that big of a deal.

I have said this in previous posts: Jalen Coleman-Lands was a high-achievement student in the University of Illinois's prestigious undergraduate business school. With this move, it is obvious that he is trading down in degree quality in order to get more playing time. Too bad.

JCL is a baller but needs to work on his ball handling non stop this off year. Rooting for him good kid.

If his goal is to be an entrepreneur, particularly in the tech space, then moving to Chicago is a big improvement over being in Champaign. Degree won't matter as much as network.

Edit: And if I'm remembering correctly the articles I've read about him, that's what his goals are.

No surprise at all. This was 100% tampering

Agreed. This was the reason he was transferring, of course he was also having trouble acclimating to the new staff, but lots of kids go through that, it was an old coach in his ear at the right time.

Now, he won't have a degree from the U of I, instead he'll have a degree from DePaul and his basketball career is essentially over. Some of these kids get really bad advice and it's sad to see.

I assume you are joking - the U of I producers more tech entrepreneurs every year than DePaul has had in its lifetime. U of I was one of the founders of shaping UI labs in Chicago. DePaul isn't even a part of UI labs right there in its backyard on Goose Island.

There is no way he did this for his tech startup career, in fact, it took a big hit if that is what he really wants to do.

No way Depaul has a better business network to tap into in Chicago than alumni of the University of Illinois. I'm not from Chicago but I think that idea is laughable. JCL got poached and it has zero to do with academics. That's the way the Illini staff reportedly see it anyway. :noidea:

You've got to be kidding. Chicago and Depaul are much better than a degree from the University of Illinois for the tech industry? There's plenty of tech networking on campus in Champaign and the connections and education you get for the tech industry are second to none. Seriously..

In major college basketball, the answer to your questions is never academics.
