We need to put the “everyday guys” phrase to rest. As a composite, this team was the exact opposite of everyday guys. Everyday guys implies that we work harder and smarter than the opposition. That was not remotely close to being true this year.
I just wanted to see this again. The absolute antithesis of “Everyday guys”

For fear of repeating frustration uttered by others, and believe it or not I don't like to criticize players making an honest effort, how many empty Mayer possessions between turnovers and missed 3s does it take before Underwood benches him? My other complaint is there were two players hitting 3s, and virtually no effort was made to get either of them the ball in the last 10 minutes. As much as I appreciate the effort, I won't miss our two transfers next year. If we lose any of this year's freshmen or sophomores to the portal I'm convinced it will be because of the way the two transfers played this year.

That's my gripe w/ Brad this year--if someone isn't running the offense they need to sit, no matter how high our expectations were. I suspect that Brad thought these guys would play through it and step up, but that's not what happened. Still, it was a fun season and even some of the losses were great games (although some weren't).

I N I......................................MM with 2 points.....sat for almost all of the second half and it was the right call......

It would have been nice if we had to lose to at least play well and lose because we got outplayed. But this, absolutely bizarre turnovers, half-!!! effort from a player we depend on, more, as always, bad 3 attempts etc just leaves a bad taste.

Just curious, why a change to the staff? Head coach sure....assistants ?
Such a disappointment this season after such hope at the beginning of the season.

Definitely need to reset. Change to the staff would help. If using the portal, find guys that fit your culture and identity. If you don’t have one, build one. Chemistry is just as important as finding a PG and shooter.

Ever since the Texas game we never felt like a "team". Just a bunch of individuals wearing a Illinois jersey

If this was TSJ's last game in college, I want to say I respect what he tried doing out there today. He played hard and with a lot of effort on both ends of the floor. He played downhill and tried his hardest. Our freshmen in Sencire and Ty shook off their first half jitters and played great second halves. Based on how they played I think we were 4 minutes too late getting them in the game, but they did a really solid job for us. Dain also had a good tourney showing and played with the aggressiveness on the boards we'll need in seasons to come. And RJ flat out showed up tonight. It's a shame injury kept him from doing this all season.

It was a really frustrating year as a fan, but I see a lot of promise with our young core. Gut feel is next year we'll be better, and the year after that will have a team that can make a deep deep run. Lock down our young core, get a talented PG, and an offseason in the weight room will do us wonders. For as much as watching this year's team frustrated me, I look forward even more to seeing next year's.
That's actually my problem with dain. He's not aggressive enough on the boards and even offensively he's only effective within close proximity to the hoop and with ample time. He also does not finish through the contact enough either. I just find him to lack dimmension as a basketball player regardless of how nimble he can be on offense at times.

Free throws, turnovers, rebounding....lost all three and the game. Hard to beat ARK. in the rebounding dept., but the other two were choices. Too many blunders. This team will not miss Mayer, but I would welcome Hawkins and Shannon who need another season to prove they know how to use their skills as a positive for their teammates...and they can. But it will be a new team next year and I hope they can use their skills to support each other and play the game smart. I like all the returning players. My fondest hope is that BU can find someone to teach three particular players the fundamentals of FT shooting. They can choose their own choices inside and outside those fundamentals, but they MUST adhere to them as it will improve their FT shooting 30-40%. If not, we will get exactly the same result, or worse, that we saw this season.

Next year's team will be considerably shorter, but they must cut turnovers in half and hit FTs. It will be interesting to see who comes in through the portal and overseas recruiting. The base group and talent is in house. Will there be defections? DD seems disinterested at times, but where else will he be featured on a good team if he cannot hit FTs and keeps turning the ball over. No better opportunity for him than with the Illini. Excited to see if Ty can elevate his game on offense...and I think with his work ethic and attitude that he will.

Thanks to all the players on this year's team for their hard work, effort and energy...and regardless, I wish them all the best in the future.

Not the ending any of us hoped for. Looking ahead, I hope that we bring in team first kind of guys from the portal. I also am hopeful that RJ and Luke stay the course, as well as our freshmen. Hoping specifically that the mid and late season concerns re RJ and Epps not appearing happy at times is just the ebbs and flows of a grueling season filled at times with frustration.
Bringing in two decent rated freshmen next year leaves us with a lot of gaps. CoHawk is likely gone as he appears in many mocks as a late first to mid second round pick. Hoping he returns.
Lots of work to do in the portal in my opinion. Please, please, please find shooters, a solid big that can make free throws and minimize turnovers; and team first, every day guys.
Isn't it a little bit of an oxymoron to be looking for "team first kind of guys" in a portal of players leaving their current team?
