Heard one of the announcers saying the covid rules are different by county, so some teams may be able to play while others not depending on the location of the game.

Sounds like a mess.
That is not the case, the NCAA rules are standard across the board for the tournament next week.

In Indiana? I can't believe that they would allow different rules, unless it involves a blue blood.....

If we win the BTT, with Baylor now out in the big 12 tournament, could we wind up with the #2 overall seed in the NCAAT?

One game at a time. Let's focus on tomorrow first. If Iowa wins the BTT, they might bump us for the last #1 seed spot. Let's not let that happen.

I wish people would stop saying this. It's not happening. We aren't moving off the 1 line regardless of what happens tomorrow.

Please explain, I would love to have some peace of mind. I keep seeing people say we're a lock but I haven't seen an explanation as to why Iowa can't catch us. As someone mentioned earlier, Iowa would have a better record than us if they win the BTT

Conference tournaments don't decide who gets a higher seed. What happens in 3 days doesn't determine what happens in 3 months. We finished second (first depending on how you look at it) in the best conference in the country with 2 less losses/2 more wins including head to head. We beat the then number 2 team in the country by 23 points on the road without our best player. Our best wins Iowa, at Ohio St, at Michigan are better than anything Iowa has done this season. We have 11 Q1 wins to Iowa's 8. Iowa has two losses to IU and a loss to Minnesota. We had no bad losses.

And better record? OK so what. That means nothing. This is not the NBA man.

I hope you're right, and you probably are. But the selection committee is human and I just worry that there might be some recency bias and bias for whoever wins the conference tournamant. Also, if Iowa wins they will have 10 Q1 wins to our 11 so not a huge difference.

Maybe the last decade of being an Illini fan has just made me overly anxious.

If Iowa wins the BTT, we’ll have one extra Q1 win & 1 less Q2 loss with a better overall regular season. So I think we squeak it out, but it’s close.

If we win the BTT, I could see us potentially snagging the #2 overall seed, ahead of Baylor & Michigan.

I think the teams odds of winning the championship go way up if they can get at least the #3 overall seed. It avoids both Gonzaga, and Alabama until the championship game.

The Big East and Pac-12 championship games are worth paying attention to today. Georgetown and Oregon State are both a win away from stealing a bid and shrinking that bubble a little bit.

I will never understand this mentality.
I will never understand the "ooohhh, do not want to play them mentality". That is NOT the mentality of a winner. I wonder if Michael Jordan was scared of other teams... Or Larry Bird, or Tiger Woods, or ANY winner. They do not care who they play.

The Illini are not Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods. The NCAA tournament isn't anything like the typical golf tournament or even the NBA playoffs.

And we are not the team. We are fans who have no impact on the actual game.

It is more likely Illinois wins some games than others. No one is going to remember who we beat in the Sweet Sixteen, Elite 8, or even the Final Four. Quick, without looking it up, who did Michigan State beat in the Elite 8 and Final Four in 2000?

Answer: They beat 8 seed Wisconsin and then 5 seed Florida in the title game.

There is no extra credit for beating better teams along the way. A title is a title is a title.

There is a difference between reality and mentality.
Reality: We want the easiest path.
Mentality: Even if is the toughest path, we blaze our way to the championship.

but I believe, as a team , you can’t worry one bit , about who you have to play .

the odds of us having to play Gonzaga are really not that great . I think they get upset before the final four . they just haven’t been tested week in and week out . they aren’t the 95-96 Bulls .

We aren't the team. Bruce Weber gets credited for an Elite 8 at Kansas State and he got to play a 16-seed in the 2nd round. I would prefer the easiest path possible.

Gonzaga may be historically good. They beat Kansas (by 12), West Virginia (5), Iowa (11), and Virginia (23). That's a projected 2 seed, 3 seed, and two 4 seeds. This tested week in and week out stuff is over-valued.

The last two times Gonzaga was a 1 seed, they made the Elite 8 and the National Championship game. The last two times Illinois was a 1 seed, they made the Elite 8 and the National Championship game. The last two times Duke was a 1 seed, they made the Elite 8 and won the National Championship. The last two times Kansas was a 1 seed they made the Elite 8 and the Final Four.

Those are basically the exact same results, regardless of conference.
