That is possible, but their win against Purdue will carry serious weight. Not to mention, @Michigan will be a Quad 2 game. While we would all say it is a bad loss, it would not show up that way. I consider Nebraska a virtual lock unless there are a multitude of bid thieves and they lose badly in their next two games.

IMO, if you are not putting Nebraska in the lock status, then Northwestern is most certainly bubbly with that ugly Q4 loss and even lower NET.

You could make that same argument for NW. Barttorvik, who is much higher on UNL than NET and KemPom, puts Nebraska as final team to get a MM bye if they lose to Michigan, second-to-last team into the tournament when coupled with a BTT loss. It's probably as simple as beating Michigan in AA and you are safely in the tournament.

Lunardi is rarely correct. I doubt that the committee would actually position the bracket that way. However, even if that ended up being the bracket, playing a 13 seed is still optimal compared to the upset special 12 seed matchup in first round.
Top 4 seed is protected… I’d BYU within 75 miles of Salt Lake?

SLC is a Thursday/Saturday site. Top 4 seeds are only protected for the first game. There’s way too much movement to happen in 2 weeks so I’m not even gonna worry about it til selection Sunday.
Oh yeah well I'm going with a different approach than your logical and rational methodology.

This is actually an interesting thing to bring up ... I personally want the Thursday/Saturday setup simply for fan viewing pleasure. In 2022, I didn't like going to a bar with my friend for our big Second Round matchup on a Sunday ... would have been a lot more fun on a Saturday! And it's fun to play on the opening day of the Tournament and either (A) divest if you lose or (B) kick back and watch the other games if you win. Here is the breakdown for this year:

THURSDAY/SATURDAY
Charlotte, NC
Omaha, NE
Pittsburgh, PA
Salt Lake City, UT

FRIDAY/SUNDAY
Brooklyn, NY
Indianapolis, IN
Memphis, TN
Spokane, WA

My sister lives in Charlotte AND it's a Thursday/Friday site ... might have to consider a trip there if that's where we land!

Feels like we can probably narrow down which of these are likely at this point. Worried we'll end up at one of the two west ones.

I'm opposite of you, I always hope for Friday/Sunday to make the tournament experience last as long as possible for Illinois. If Illinois is playing Friday, love following all the Thursday games knowing there's still the Illini coming Friday. And win on Friday, I can enjoy basically the whole weekend.

But that Thurs/Sat draw and the possibility of a Thursday loss, it ruins the best sporting weekend of the year for me until about the sweet 16.

My friend is getting married on Saturday the 23rd (huge Illini fan....his fiance is a teacher, so it's spring break but otherwise I have no idea why he chose one of the tourney weekends).

Either way, he's playing with fire:
If Illinois is Thursday/Saturday -- there's a very high chance that if Illinois makes the Round of 32, the game will be during the wedding. Which a lot of us will be splitting time and dancing/drinking while watching the game likely.

If Illinois is Friday/Sunday -- there's a decent chance their game is during the rehearsal dinner (especially if they are in Spokane).

I think in an ideal world, they're early Friday to avoid the wedding day catastrophe but.....come on man. There's 3 weekends in March you shouldn't schedule your wedding! Ha. And if Illinois doesn't make it to the Sweet 16, all your friends will be happy for you but pissed about the Illini during your special weekend.

I was thinking the same thing, but this link is saying the only way MSU gets the 7 seed is if we lose to Iowa (plus MSU winning and Wisconsin winning at least 1). Kind of a bummer if true (I haven't verified).

You're right - as of today, Iowa is locked into the 7 seed if we beat them.

That's actually a fair point. I guess I would amend my opinion to my preference for Friday/Sunday in a universe where we lose in the First Round and Thursday/Saturday if we win our first game!

Honestly, when we're in the tournament, I'm just so anxious/nervous for our game that while I watch the other games, all I can think about is the beloved!!

Re: parity... i think it could best be summed up as follows:

Since 2018, #16 seeds beat #1 seeds 10% of the time.

Come ready to play, or go home. C'mon BU, git'er done this year, bruv.

Maybe reconsider your choice In friends? If he is a “huge Illini fan” why would he ever schedule a wedding during March Madness. Teachers also get the summer off.

Summer weddings are hugely expensive, particularly if you're on a teacher's salary. And the prices go up after Easter. Not to mention that if they want to travel right away for their honeymoon, she likely can't take time off during the school year (we only get three PTO days in my district because we have longer breaks).

Now, I'll say this. If he (and his spouse) are huge fans, they should be rolling TVs out during the reception. One of my good friends is a huge Cubs fan and did just that during the 2015 NLDS so we could watch during dinner and kept it going during dancing. She figured those who wanted to dance would dance, those who wanted to watch would watch instead of being glued to their phones, and everyone would make good use of the bar.

She was 100% right

They beat us. That's also a good reason.

Their preconference schedule was extremely challenging and they actually beat good teams:

Duke(L)
Arizona (L)
Baylor (W)
Indiana State (W)
Butler (W)

They'd never be penalized for lining up that non-conference schedule and nor should they be. Compared to that, our non-conference schedule sucked. Tennessee was tough, but FAU ended up being average.

They're benefitting from not being afraid of scheduling good teams.
I mean we also played Marquette definitely wasn't a cupcake schedule.

Also, I know FAU is down in kenpom a. It but they're better than average. They beat Arizona and some other decent power conference teams like A&M, and Butler.

Wouldn't be surprised to see FAU win some games in March again with the guard play of Davis and Martin plus Goldin.
