CFB Coaching Carousel 2016-17

It wasn't until late December where Claeys made the ill fated decision to support the players foregoing the bowl game in solidarity of accused gang rapists. Then the University report comes out and makes the coach and team look horrible.

Yeah, and the AD/Prez also screwed up their handling of that situation, so they are making him the scapegoat.

Often overlooked by the media is whether the AD is the person you want to work with. Many coaches have cited this as a big factor. Mike Thomas would not have been able to hire Lovie. So to me the question is how respected is their AD?

This could end terribly for them. I would've thought they had someone locked up before firing a coach 4 weeks from signing day.

I cant believe hes gonna leave now to go to the dumpster fire that is Minny football right now. Hes gotta have better offers. if not this year then next.

It could be for leverage. I think he is due for extension at Western Michigan. I can't believe he would make this move either

How many people said this about Lovie Smith to Illinois?

At least the Illinois situation was simple. We were in the gutter, desperate for a savior.

Minny seems like a bit of a vipers nest. Jerry Kill disavowing the program, players talking about how everyone is going to transfer, and this with a team that has grown accustomed to success. It's a tricky job, no question.

Not sure this is all that smart for Minnesota either. I think Fleck will succeed almost anywhere but they have an image and culture problem right now.

Fleck strikes me as the type to throw his Grandma off the cliff to win. That could be playing with fire, like Indiana hiring Kelvin Sampson

Yeah, he also seems like a boom or bust guy, at some point that act is going to blow up on him.

Former LSU football coach Les Miles flew to Twin Cities Wed. and is meeting with Univ. of Minnesota officials, sources tell @120Sports.

Seems like an odd fit to me, but Miles would be a very good get for them.

Why is it strange? Is he too good for them? I think the view of Miles is on the scummy side. Is that why? I think he can get HC offers from better schools. or at least better situations.

I think it would be great for them to get Miles. Crazy good coaching in the B1G if they do.

Wasn't coaching his problem?

I do think it would be a step down for him (though the same could have been said for us with Lovie). It's gonna be a lot tougher to recruit southern kids that he already has ties to to cold, snowy Minnesota than to SEC powerhouse LSU (in a state that is a talent hotbed, and right next to others). That said, he has been in the Big Ten before, is originally a midwestern guy (from Ohio), and I'm sure his name recognition would help in getting his feet wet with more local recruits, as it has with Lovie.
